World Record Endurance Flight Caps Apollo Challenge

Pilot Killed as Skyhawk Downed by Soviet Missile in Vietnam War
A U.S. Navy A4 Skyhawk was downed about 50 miles south west of Hanoi by a Soviet supplied surface to air missile. The pilot Lt Omar Francis Roberge survived a night landing at the Midway after his aircraft was crippled. A second Skyhawk was damaged in the blast. In Duc Co South Viet Nam Gen Westmoreland visited the siege line and came under mortar fire. On the ground Marines suffered light casualties in five clashes with Viet Cong forces.
