Vet Group Pressures Congress Over Pension Bill
The House Veterans Affairs Committee accuses a World War I veterans group of launching a vicious letter campaign against lawmakers opposing the multi billion dollar pension bill. The group says individual members acted, not the national organization, to stop the drive. The proposal would grant all World War I veterans non service connected pensions of 103.37 dollars monthly with income limits.

Seven Teens Killed as Train Hits Car Near Lubbock
A Santa Fe passenger train collided with a car at a crossing 15 miles northwest of Lubbock killing seven teens from Olton and Earth. One boy escaped unharmed after leaping from the vehicle. The group from First Baptist Church of Olton and Earth were en route to a church picnic. Jimmy Lawson was hospitalized for shock. The crash required a crane to remove the wreckage as bodies lay along the track.

United States offers concessions on nuclear test ban talks
U S Ambassador Arthur H. Dean told a disarmament subcommittee the United States would accept fewer monitoring posts from 180 to about 80 and fewer inspections if the Soviet Union allows teams to check its test sites for blasts. Soviet Deputy Foreign Minister Valerian Zorin rejected the proposal as merely rough and disappointing.

A 1958 Ford carrying two Hobbs men left the Artesia highway 20 miles west of Lovington and rolled twice. Driver Roxanna Hobbs and passenger Evester Roberts were treated.
