Hobbs Pilot Killed in Cannon AFB Jet Crash
UPI reports Air Force Lt. Alvin D. Eady Jr. died on his 25th birthday when his F-100D lost power and crashed near Cannon Air Force Base. He was returning from a practice mission carrying live ammunition. Eady is survived by his widow Dorothy, a 14 month old daughter Pamela Machelle, a one month old son Alan, and his parents Arvin D. and Mrs. Eady Sr. of Hobbs.

The fire department responded to a grass fire north of town at 10 35 Wednesday morning. They quickly halted the blaze in the field west of the D A S office before any damage occurred.

Fines Imposed on Three Teens for Illicit Beverages
Three youths were fined 25 dollars and given 30 day suspended jail terms by Peace Justice Reece Greaves for illegal possession of intoxicating beverages. Army Plans September Draft Of 25 000 Men
The Defense Department announced that the Army will draft 25 000 men in September as part of Kennedy's military buildup. The September call exceeds August by 12 900 and brings total draftees since June 1950 to 2 640 950. The draft schedule follows a pledge to expand the Army toward one million strong.
