Teens convicted in Santa Fe murder case years after crime

Two Santa Fe teens, Topias Ortega age 18 and Raymond Patterson age 17, were convicted of murder for the October 1961 killing of Lucile Bruce. Ortega faces life, Patterson 3 years to life, after a nine-hour jury deliberation. Ortega attempted to grab a deputy’s pistol during the verdict rollout.

California Evangelist Cecil Knippers to Speak at Nazarene Church

Haitian Exiles Claim Success In Invasion

Eighteen uniformed men claiming to join the Haitian invasion force crossed back into the Dominican Republic saying their attempt to topple President Francois Duvalier failed. Kennedy Infant Shows Improvement In Special Chamber

Parade Of Champions Theme For Lea County Fair Parade

The Lea County Fair Parade will open the fair on September 5 with the Parade Of Champions theme. Entries are sought from businesses individuals and civic clubs with a 5 pm September 3 deadline at the Huntington Chamber of Commerce. The parade runs 3 30 pm from South Eddy Street Ave D to Main Street Jackson Ave and East on East Street. The band enters from Love Street and exits onto Ave D then Main Street and West on Jackson Ave Second Street. Prize details include a first place school band trophy and participation trophies for others with cash prizes 25 15 and 10 in the froat division and a KLEA trophy in the miscellaneous division.
