The Lovington Chamber of Commerce announced the annual Farm Tour set to begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday August 16 with a 6:30 p.m. barbecue at the Lea County Electric community room. Drowning at Story Lake Claims 13 Year Old Montano
A 13 year old, Mercedes Montano, drowned five miles north of Las Vegas while swimming with his 14 year old brother Joe and uncle Charlie Baca. The boy shouted for help, the uncle tried to aid him but was pulled under. Police and medics responded, but the body was not immediately recovered.

Counsel Appointed For Mrs Lockamy In Lovington Case
G Marie Lockamy of Homestead Florida appeared before Dist Judge Caswell Near to answer first degree murder charges. With no counsel present arraignment was postponed. The judge entered a not guilty plea and appointed Randy Reese of Hobbs as attorney. The case will return to court later. She is charged with fatally shooting Edsel N Hurst in a Lovington motel room on July 21. She admits shooting but claims accident. Assistant district attorney Joe Walton notes she admits the shooting. In other district court action 12 people were arraigned on various charges. Jimmy Shows of Hobbs pleaded guilty to breaking and entering two months ago and sentencing was deferred again for three years. Jesse Amaya of Lovington was charged with obtaining money by fraud. sentenced to 2-5 years but suspended on restitution in three months. Oris Wingard of Plains was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. sentenced to not more than 3 years with 90 days in county jail. Albert Mitchell of Hobbs pleaded not guilty to aiding and concealing stolen property over $50. trial set later. Rural Nelson of Hobbs charged with grand larceny received 1-10 years. Manuel Munoz of Hobbs was sentenced to 1-10 years.
