Bruce King of Santa Fe County was elected convention president as the State Constitutional Convention sorted organizational issues. A 65 person staff was proposed at 1291.50 daily and a five member employment committee was named to study staffing needs.
Gov. Cargo said the State Highway Department will clear roads and ditches damaged by flash floods in Chimayo Espanola Velarde Alcalde Dixon Chamisal and Trampas Rio Arriba County. Health and Social Services will check for hazards and offer state aid until immediate problems are solved. A severe storm with sheet lightning and thunder struck Santa Fe Tuesday night causing power interruptions but no reported damage.
Harold Haddock entered his 1911 Cadillac in a 65-car southwest show in Lubbock Texas. Judges awarded best restored pre 1916 vehicle high point car and most desirable car with a unanimous vote at the Red Raider Villa banquet.
The Air Force acknowledged the orange and white 20 foot para chute drone was part of the secret Firefly project after a two year security cloak. Officials said it was a high altitude test from White Sands Missile Range that malfunctioned and landed on a government reservation near Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory.

Washington AP report says House tax reformers add 2.4 billion in relief mainly for low and moderate income recipients. A Thursday vote is expected on a bill projected to raise 6.8 billion in revenue and pay out 9.2 billion in relief, with extensions and surtax provisions shaping 1970 into 1972 policy.
Three U.S. war prisoners freed by North Vietnam flew to Bangkok after months in captivity. Lt. Robert F. Frishman Capt. Wesley Rumble and Seaman Douglas Brent Hegdahl watched Apollo 11 and space films for the first time since imprisonment. They wore civilian clothes, tasted beer, read a newspaper, and prepared to fly home after a stop in Bangkok.
Bruce King, a 45 year old Santa Fe County rancher, wins election as convention president and vows full-time effort to finish NM constitutional session. He is known for his House Speaker tenure and prior political rise since 1954. King says the presidency is the highest office in New Mexico.

State Sens. Edmundo Delgado and Alex Martinez both D Santa Fe registered today as Constitutional Convention lobbyists with the secretary of state. They intend to assist convention delegates on matters affecting the legislative process and to stay informed on proposed constitutional changes such as terms salaries and session length. Martinez, former House majority whip, and Delgado discussed memorials on state aid to private schools and lowering the voting age to 18.
