Kate Saf Holm, 19, of Redwood City Calif reports hitting an object in Serra Boulevard South San Francisco. Police doubted her claim but a shark about four feet long was found in a rivulet crossing a busy street near a city sewer outlet and may have entered the street from water or fallen from a truck.
State health officials reiterate required vaccines for public and private schools and day-care centers in New Mexico for 1973-74. DTP, oral polio, measles rubella mumps vaccines, and boosters are outlined with age cues and provisions for those without prior immunization.

Charles Winstead the FBI pistol expert who fired two of the three bullets that killed gangster John Dillinger died at 82 in Albuquerque Veterans Hospital. A WWI veteran born in Sherman Texas he helped track Bonnie and Clyde before his Dillinger shot in 1934. He retired after a long FBI career leaving sons Albert B. Thorne and Thomas P. Thorne of Dallas.
Three year old Ross Kimbell son of Mr and Mrs Ronnie Kimbell of Hobbs is hospitalized at Permian Hospital in Andrews Texas with pneumonia. He is the grandson of Mr and Mrs O B Kimbell and Mr and Mrs Sam Morrow of Lovington.

Rep. Harold Runnels says the Farmers Home Administration has reconsidered a plan to cut New Mexico field staff by 40 percent. Acting FHA Administrator Frank B. Elliott now indicates only five positions will be eliminated, down from the proposed 32.
New Mexico State Board of Education announced a study on banning smoking in public schools. The plan aims to tighten Rights and Responsibilities rules on discipline and dress codes, with six months given to prepare a revised plan amid concerns over discipline and attire standards.
NLRB administrative law judge Martin S. Bennett held GTE Lenkurt of Albuquerque violated the National Labor Relations Act by discouraging union membership and threatening employees. The order requires removal of disciplinary memos, reinstatement of Joy Bishop, and prohibits interference with union activity. Earlier in January the union filed the complaint and the board had ordered reinstatement of 16 workers in a separate ruling.
