Local authorities jailed J C Hillard, 45, after a larceny under $100 charge and as a burglary suspect awaiting district court. Bond set at $3000. Hillard held in county jail. Sam Boston, 40, arrested for disorderly conduct and drunkenness. sentenced to 30 days in county jail.

The Defense Department issued an October draft call of 46,200 men the highest for any month since the Korean war. September's draft quota was raised to 37,300 from 31,300 as enlistments lag.
