A meeting of the county commissioners is set for Tuesday morning August 5 at 10 o clock to hear the petitions with North Sea Health and others representing the group.
ENMU Roswell will offer the first university level oil field techniques course in the United States this month with 20 students enrolled for a one year program. The course uses new and used equipment under simulated field conditions. Local oil industry representatives from Chaves County have offered to fund the project.
A Legislative Finance Committee report in Santa Fe urges a state mechanism to identify all federal funds flowing into state and local government. About 200 million dollars funded the 1974 75 budget with no comprehensive tracking system. The proposal calls for prior review of federal fund budgets and clearer reporting to the legislature.
Jesse D. Shepard, 43, died in Kermit Friday after a short illness. Burial is in Kermit with services at First Baptist Church. He married Nancy Joy Teague on June 16, 1952 in Carlsbad. Survived by wife, three daughters Roxanna Teresa Sue, mother Minnie Shepard of Midland, and three sisters in Texas.
The Lea County Fair and Rodeo heads toward its 40th anniversary as events run August 13 to 17 at Jake McClure Arena. Headliner Bill Mack of WBAP Fort Worth will perform each rodeo night, while a parade on August 13 kicks off festivities. Entries for the parade are due August 11 and Queen Contest forms must be returned by noon August 8. The forecast calls for scattered thundershowers in the region.
U S Senator Joseph Montoya and U S Representative Harold Runnels will be honored at a public reception tomorrow in Lovington. The event runs 2 30 to 3 30 P M in the Liberty National Bank community room and is hosted with the bank’s Carlile stating the public is invited.
The American Conservative Union praises Representative Harold Runnels second district for votes to cut government spending curb bureaucracy and bolster national defense. The 85 percent interim score covers 15 key House votes in the first half of 1975 and notes his leadership in organizing conservatives.
Amarillo police captured Roger P. Barrett 24 of Dallas and a woman in a motel raid for fleeing from an Albuquerque jail at gunpoint. Bond set at 100000. The missing escapees include Lonnie Stewart and two others. Stewart's wife’s whereabouts unknown. Barrett to arraign in Amarillo Monday.
Mrs. Clemmie Ann Cagle 87 died Friday evening in a Lubbock hospital after a lengthy illness. She is survived by three sons Lindall of Tatum Jack and Woodrow of Lubbock nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral 10 a m Monday at First United Methodist Church Tatum. Burial in Tatum Cemetery under Resthaven Singleton Wilson Funeral Home. Born in Ennis she moved to Lubbock eight years ago and was an elementary school teacher and active in church work.
Dean Waddill 63 of 1001 West Avenue Lovington area died at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock early Saturday from a heart attack three weeks after onset. Born August 9, 1911 in Lockney Texas he moved to Lovington after World War II and married Bea Fedric July 4 1952 in Hobbs. He was an elder and Sunday school superintendent at First Christian Church.
