Judge seeks grand jury probe of airplane purchase
Santa Fe district Judge Samuel Z Montoya said he would call a grand jury investigation into the state airplane purchase even if the petition lacked 75 valid names. A clerk found over 80 of 100 names absent when the board approved the deal under state procurement law. Accident victim Crow improves after oil field accident
Horace Quitman Crow, 29, of Denver City Texas, improved at Lovington Lea General Hospital Tuesday after an oil field accident early Saturday. He, an employee of Sharp Drilling, was crushed between tongs and iron near Mallamar, admitted 3:45 a.m. and underwent four and a half hours of surgery.

Lovington City Police reported two separate crashes on Monday. At 10 a.m. a 1962 Rambler wagon hit from behind by a 1960 Chevrolet truck on North Main Street caused $250 and $200 damage respectively. At 3:15 p.m. a 1960 Ford collided with a 1953 Plymouth on Main Street as Shields tried a left turn. damages totaled $150 for the Ford and $200 for the Plymouth. Shields cited for failure to yield right of way.
