Myrtice Sug Conn 20 a ENMU senior and Coral Gables native won the Miss New Mexico title Saturday night. She defeated eight entrants including Lovington runner up Jan Coady and Miss Carlsbad Helen Carwile. Marjane Rydall won Miss Congeniality. pageant sponsored by the Lovington Junior Chamber.

A man identified as Bruce McRea Britt, 40, of Columbus Ohio, wounded two aboard a Chico California flight while trying to seize the airliner. He reportedly based his actions on a Cuban hijack incident involving Eastern Airlines on July 24. The Pacific Airlines DC 3 was preparing to depart Chico Airport for San Francisco when the attempt occurred.

Francis Jack Witt 36 of Lovington lost his left arm below the elbow in a rig accident near Milnesand at 5 a.m. Sunday. Witt, a roughneck for Marcum Drilling of Midland, was taken to Methodist Memorial Hospital Lubbock. Driller James Rhea said Witt was working alone. exact cause unknown. Witt manages a Fine Service Station in Lovington. wife Helen works at Sears, and mother Mrs. Vaughn is at Tipp's Men's Store. His condition was reported very satisfactory.

Area residents endured a sudden strong wind from all directions and brief hail with a shower of rain totaling .91 inches at North 17th Street. The Mobil Oil company in Lovington honored its production department of forty four employees led by foreman Twen Cummins at a safety dinner held Saturday night at the Western Grill. The team has logged over 75,000 hours without a disabling injury since January 1, 1960.

Auto Crashes Hurt 2 Women
Two women were injured in separate crashes Saturday. Ethel Todd Rollo, 27, of Lovington, sustained cuts and bruises in a overturned 1961 Volkswagen on US 380 west of Tatum and was admitted then released. Louise Dean, 37, a passenger, was treated after a pole collision in an alley south of Ave M. Donna Ruth Cox, 49, of 1217 W Van Buren, was charged with driving while intoxicated after the alley crash. her car and injuries were minor.

A New Mexico health official denied three US Geological Survey employees contracted bubonic plague. The men attended a Santa Fe water resources conference with Dr. John P.
