More than six inches of rain triggered flash floods in central Kansas forcing evacuations along the Blue River near Kansas City and flooding Easton, Leavenworth County. Army airlifted about 30 Easton families as creeks Big Stranger and Dawson crest. In Ohio, Canton area saw nearly 3½ inches of rain forcing boat evacuations while Louisville was cut off by high water. Dam safety crews sandbagged a crack at Kolcrest Reservoir as flood threats lingered.

United Airlines pilot Marion Pat Boling flew a Beechcraft Bonanza nonstop 6 682 miles from Manila to Seattle beating the previous light-plane record. He reported two hours ahead of schedule and planned possibly to continue to Wichita as tail winds aided his flight over Okinawa Tokyo Bay and the North Pacific. Boling said the trip was to get out of a rut.
