Lordsburg Mavericks travel to Duncan Arizona and beat Duncan High 14 to 0 in a dramatic season opener. Conner leads with 4 yard per carry average and a 20 yard pass, Lewis runs for 20 yard TDs, Fisher adds a first half TD and extra point aided by strong line play. Noche and Bertrand anchor line while Hernandez and Ball contribute on defense and special teams as Lordsburg seals the victory.

Heather builds semi Spanish funeral home in Lordsburg

In Lordsburg an ortaker and funeral director S Jack Heather plans a modern semi Spanish type mortuary east of the Knights of Pythias Hall. The 50 by 50 foot building will house four chapels for 250 seating, with LaMore tile and Spanish tile trim and stucco exterior. The LaMore tile is made in Lordsburg and the facility aims to bring a new standard to the town.

Wright Home Damaged by Fire Early Thursday

The home of Tey L. Wright suffered heavy fire and water damage when a attic blaze started some unknown cause, spreading before neighbors alerted Mr and Mrs Wright. Firefighters arrived promptly to extinguish the fire though extensive damage to the attic pool ceiling furnishings and clothing occurred.

Impressive Cornerstone Service Held For New Church

The cornerstone laying of a new Methodist church was conducted by Rev. John Sies last Friday afternoon. The service featured church orchestra selections, hymn singing, and a sermon by Rev. Funeral service held for James D. Wolf at Cloverdale Cemetery

James D. Wolf died at the Ballard home in Animas at age 62. He was a rancher and former cowboy who came here years ago. A sister and her husband from Syracuse Kansas attended the funeral along with several cowboy friends from afar.

Methodist Quarterly Conference Elects Local Officers

Rev J T Redman presiding elder led the fourth quarterly conference noting church progress and building program. Officers elected include C C Fuller as Sunday school superintendent W E Holt lay leader and district steward and several stewards. The presiding elder praised church finances and announced he will be reassigned this fall. Rev John S Rice was requested to be returned as pastor for another year. The annual conference meets in Portales October 8 12.
