Mavericks Meet in Homecoming Tilt Friday
Deming Wildcats visit the Mavericks for the annual Homecoming game in the local high school gym. The Mavericks, undefeated this season, have defeated Ruidoso Hatch Silver and a 60-0 over the Wildcats last year. Ray Ney quarterbacked the opening TD, with Es to Jimmes, Mann and Bustler adding scores in a 25-0 Hatch win.

In Carlsbad New Mexico state firemen meeting the convention approved the selection of Fireman of the Year to be named at the 1960 Las Vegas meeting Newly elected president Chief Harold Bishop of Lordsburg will name a committee to select the honoree on the basis of Outstanding Service. The group also urged hiring a full time moving instructor and creating a fund to aid 50 to 60 percent of fire station building costs in small towns. Legislative action likely.

Floisa Granado To Reign As Queen At Fiesta In Lordsby
Miss Eloisa Granado will reign as queen of the Annual Parrish Fiedta to be held in Lordsby on Sept 26. Her attendants include Miss Mise Alice Arambulae and Miss Chelo Valenzuela. The queen’s coronation and a dance follow at 8:45 p.m. with grand march led by Mr and Mrs Ray Saucedo. The Fiesta, run by the Ladies Altar Society and Catholic Workers Organization, was postponed due to conflicts with Hidalgo County Fair and Sheriff’s Rodeo. Children events are planned for Oct 4 at St Joseph’s Church playground, plus a food sale at American Legion Hall on Oct 11.

Wesley Freeburg named president of the Old Timers Association at its tenth annual roundup tied to the Hidalgo County Fair and Sheriff's Posse Rodeo in Lordsburg. Offiers elected include Peter M. Chase vice president Emma Scofield secretary Ena Mitchell treasurer. directors John A. Johnson George P. Jeffus and George Pendleton. Chris Fox of the State National Bank of El Paso addressed the gathering. Eligibility requires 30 years residency in the state. The roundup began with a barbecue dinner at The American Legion Hall followed by program.

The Old Timer's Parade through Lordsburg on Friday September 16 featured two twelve or so floats led by a lime light Model Stage Coach drawn by six horses driven by Sid Wilson an eighty year old veteran of show business. Prizes awarded to Cotton City Community and Church and Lordsburg schools with separate bicycle contest prizes and a post parade luncheon hosted by the Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce at El Charro Cafe.

Juner Livestock Sale Attracts Quick Auction in Lordsburg
Twenty head of livestock were sold in under two hours by auctioneer Jennings Jarvis who donated his services. Fat calves fetched 35 to 42 cents, hogs 36 to 41, and fat lambs 30 to 45 cents. Buyers included First National Bank of Lordsburg and Farmers and Merchants Bank of Las Cruces as well as Kennecott Copper Mine and Duncan Mercantile. Unsuccessful bidders included Up-To-Date Grocery and Hotel Hidalgo. Contribut ion bidders listed among many local businesses and individuals.
