City grant seeks park upgrades and range rules
The City Corner submits grant requests to the Natural Resources Department for North Park and Short Park playground equipment many upgrades. It also seeks restrooms for the Little League and softball fields and shading for the rifle range. The city forbids glass containers at the range and instructs use of provided target frames. Gates at the hill bottom will be moved to the water tank entrance. The water tank area is off limits to the public except city staff or with written permission. Retired Teachers To Meet Sept 25 Hidalgo County Gathering

Hidalgo County EMT Course Set For October Visit
Hidalgo County Ambulance seeks applicants for an Emergency Medical Technician course running October 2 to November 18. Classes meet Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tue Thu evenings 7 to 10 p.m. Applicants must be 18, hold a New Mexico license, be willing to volunteer, and be in good health able to lift 100 pounds. The course is a Basic Life Support ambulance training program.

Lordsburg Resident Dies In Head-On Collision
A Friday night head-on crash on State Road 9 involving five men in two pickups left Ramon Ortiz of Lordsburg dead at the scene and four others injured. Wilson drove into the opposing lane, causing the fatal impact. three others from Lordsburg and Houston residents were hospitalized. Charges are pending.
