The Mavericks lost to Las Cruces Cruces Bulldogs 45 to 19 in front of home fans. Lordsburg was unable to mount a scoring drive until late in the second quarter as Cruces used aerial and ground attacks to pull away. The next game is Friday at 6 p.m. versus Duncan.
The sheriff’s Posse rodeo drew large crowds Saturday and Sunday with grandstand and grounds filled. Spectators lined the fence as riders and exhibitions showcased events like barrel racing. The rodeo queen was chosen from five contestants with Miss Lucille Richins named a finalist.

W F Heald of Painted Canyon Ranch writes in Grey's western magazine about James E Reavis the Barono f Arizona a con man who forged grants and deeds to seize about ten million acres of land in Arizona from St Joseph Missouri.
Old Timer chuck wagon event last Saturday under New Mexico skies honored members over 80 including Amanda Bradberry and Eva Marshall with gifts. Lida Lewis from Truth or Consequences traveled far. David Warren Jr aged 30 was youngest honoree. E N Jackson chaired. R H Wamel Sr elected president. officers and directors reappointed.
1951 Rodeo Queen Miss Lucille Richins 16 was chosen Queen of Hidalgo County Sheriff's Posse rodeo for 1951. A Lordsburg High junior, she is five feet three inches and 116 pounds. She has ridden since age 12 and rides her horse well. She is daughter of Mr and Mrs George Richins. Richins was selected from five contestants and judged 50 percent on horsemanship and 50 percent on personality by judges Bill Bohling and Doc Garland Johnson.
The bank marks its 44th anniversary with a display of rare currency including $10,000 and $5,000 bills. Students tour the collection while a U S Treasury guard remains on site. The bank was organized September 20 1907.
Four U. S. Armed Forces men arrived in town last Thursday on leave from San Diego California. Armando Estrada Manuel Diaz and Carlos Saucedo are spending their 14 day leave with relatives and enjoyed the Third Annual Mexican Fiesta. They are pursuing education while in the navy and report liking Navy life. Also arriving from the west coast to visit friends is Mike Araizo Gillumo Lopez who came by Greyhound Bus Line.
R B Ownby Hidalgo county chairman of the Crusade for Freedom urges all citizens to join the week long Crusade for Freedom in New Mexico proclaimed by Gov Edwin L Mechen for Sept 17 to 23. Residents are told to enroll by mailing contributions to Crusade for Freedom care of their local postmaster. Donors will receive an official receipt and a button. A school drive and a motorcade broadcasting program are planned.
The First Annual Hidalgo County Fair on Sept 15–16 drew exhibitors from across the county. Fruits vegetables baked goods sewing flowers livestock poultry and crops were on display. Judges included Mrs. Hugh Chembera Mrs. Geraldine Frew Miss Sergio Fries and others with prize winners noted in the junior division and FFA.
Spectators from county towns lined Railroad Street as the Old Times parade moved along Saturday morning. Mrs. Claude C. Fuller chaired the event with Leo Cohen narrating from Union Department Store. Theme floats, Sheriff’s Posse, bicyclists, and horse contingents highlighted the mile long parade with prize winners announced by local judges. First prizes went to Most Historical American Legion Auxiliary and First National Bank First. honorable mention to Central School Primary and Beta Sigma Phi First.
