Lorpsburg Boys Liberated From Jap Prison Camp

Local families receive word that several Lorpsburg area youths including Sgt Arvil L Gale and others have been liberated from Japanese prison camps in the Tokyo area and will be returned to U S military control with plans to reunite with families soon.

Andy Lucero Honored, Returns After War Service

Andy Lucero, inducted at Kelly Field in 1943, completed a 30 furlough after overseas service. He trained at T C Ten in South California, saw action in Normandy and North France with the 916th Mooring Squadron, earned three combat stars and Good Conduct, and spent Christmas 1944 in hospital after an injury. He visited Paris Brussels and Lynn en route home landing August 21 in New York. Local relatives Tom Mayfield and Goldie Little and families visit Las Cruces Moren during the week.

Womans Club Holds Annual Luncheon with New Officers

The Womans Club held its fall luncheon in the club house with Mrs. Tom Clayton presiding. Mrs. E. Forrest Sanders received a Federation pin as outgoing president, Supt. Tom J. Mayfield spoke on “Now What?” and new officers were installed including Mrs. John R. Bradford as president and Mrs. N. A. Gammon as treasurer. The group planned a gas heating upgrade and an October benefit party. Buy War Bonds and Stamps.

Erwin Ewan Furlough Home After WWII Service

Erwin Ewan, assistant Battalion Surgeon, led all Company Aid men with the 1285 Engineers Combat Battalion overseas ten months. The unit built the Rhine crossing Bailey bridge and bridges at Cologne Neuss and Dusseldorf while maintaining them until relief troops arrived. Inducted February 11 1943 at Fort Bliss Texas he trained at multiple bases before overseas deployment in November 1944. He crossed into Germany by April 1945 and returned home August 24 landing at Pier 88 New York to begin a thirty day furlough and reunion with family saying there is no place like home.

H Jack Daniels of Animas died September 8 1946 at Douglas Hospital following a heart attack. Death of J. D. Mahan in Deming

The community mourns the sudden death of little J. D. Mahan who died September 9 in Deming after an appendectomy. He was ill about a week and is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. L. B.
