Crusade for Freedom Drives Hidalgo County Appeal

Lordsburg Odd Fellows Form Southwest 100 F Association

The Lordsburg lodge of the Odd Fellows held initiatory degree work Thursday with Carl Graves of San Simon Arizona admitted. Sunday a delegation visited Deming Bayard to establish the Southwest 100 F Association including Odd and Rebekah lodges from the area.

Lordsburg LDS Summer Primary In Review

On Thursday evening August the Lordsburg Primary of the D S church held its annual activities in review on the tennis court. The Summer Primary featured celebration of nations from the British Isles to the Pacific Isles and the Indians. Children studied countries during the summer and performed dances and songs with colorful costumes and flags.

Doctor Jones to join Gay Clinic in Biloxi Mississippi

Dr F Dudley Jones leaves Lordsburg after practicing since last fall to join the staff of the Gay clinic in Biloxi known for asthma hay fever and chest diseases He is a 1934 graduate of the University of South Carolina and served as a colonel in the Army Medical Service during World War II Mrs Jones and the two sons Kurt and Scott will stay in Lordsburg for now until a Biloxi home is arranged.

Tag Day To Raise Free Lunch Funds Saturday

A Tag Day to fund free school lunches will be held Saturday September 16 under American Legion auxiliary sponsorship. The effort aims to improve child health and nutrition with several groups already pledging donations including Moc te zuma club $5 and church and civic groups $5 each. Mrs M Messecar coordinates with Mrs Laura Dunagan and Mrs Glen Dorsett leading the drive with Girl Scouts selling tags.

Lions Club Meeting Hosts Four Visitors and News

Sixteen members and four visitors attended the regular Lions Club meeting at Ranch House cafe. Dick Rice announced the 1950-51 weekly program chairmen. Visitors included Kenneth Pharr the new high school coach and Coach Paul Probert who spoke on the 1950 football team prospects. Ulrich Miller of Miller Chevrolet and a fire truck company representative also spoke, introduced by Dr. J. H. Baxter.

Regular Chamber of Commerce Meeting September Lunch

A regular monthly dinner and business meeting of the Chamber of Commerce will be held at 12 o'clock noon on Monday September 18 at the Ranch House cafe west on Highway No 80. Members are urged to attend a Dutch treat and discuss important business.

Pythian Sisters Meet Initiates New Members and State News

Western Star Temple Pythian Sisters held a regular meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Dorsett were initiated. Mrs. Odie Lee Haltom reported on the Supreme convention in Grand Rapids Michigan. Cleone Hogan of Albuquerque was installed Supreme Chief marking a first for New Mexico. Members dressed in Fiesta attire and promoted the state. Ima Fairly June Dunagan and Dora Kerr named for the Grand Temple meeting in Deming. Refreshments served.

Drilling Set To Begin In Animas Valley Test Well

Drilling operations will start on the Leggett Palma No 1 oil and gas test well in the Animas Valley within ten days. Co L East of Artesia, a veteran contractor, will move in heavy equipment to drill to 4000 feet or more. East hopes for productive sands, noting erosion and shallow valley fill require deeper drilling.

Hidalgo County Chooses Queen For New Mexico State Fair

A Hidalgo County contest will name a queen for the New Mexico State Fair. Contenders aged 16 to 20 will be judged 50 percent on personality and 50 percent on horseback ability. A Hollywood rep and out of state stockmen will judge. The winner will ride in the Grand Opening Day Parade and Grand Entry of the rodeo for nine days, September 23 to October 1, and serve as Hidalgo county’s representative.

Lordsburg Parent Teachers Association opens its 1950 51 season Monday September 18 at 7 30 in the high school auditorium. The program committee secured the film Problem Child a widely demanded presentation about youth and parent concerns. Public invited to attend.

The second annual Lordsburg Fiesta Mexicana and Jamaica will be held Friday and Saturday at Moctezuma Hall starting 7 00 p m Friday and concluding at the La Fiesta Club Saturday evening. The event honors world independence and welcomes all to celebrate with Mexican American communities and friends.
