An Old Timers Parade spokesman called the event one of the best in recent years. Nine floats competed with numerous participants in the Best Dressed trophy and bicycle division. Beta Sigma Phi won sweepstakes and first in the Senior Division. LULAC Essa Title VII took second in the senior division.
Anselmo C. Rodriguez is named manager of the Lordsburg district for Community Public Service Company, succeeding Victor Reay who moves to head the Silver City district. Rodriguez, a Quemada native, has served as Lordsburg serviceman for three years and is married with two teenage sons.
Joe Bivens, owner of Bivens Supply, announced a Fall Golden Value Days Sale starting this weekend. A 12 page color insert appears with bargains on fix up and cleanup materials, paint, appliances, bake ware, power tools, hand tools, weatherproofing and electrical supplies.
The Liberal reports Western Auto launches a Bandwagon Sale with a full color circular offering items for every family member and a special sight and sound festival. Jiggs Reed, local franchise owner, says sold out or temporarily out of stock items will be promptly ordered.
Lordsburg Elementary Principal R. V. Traylor says about 20 students from the Title I funded kindergarten program must be screened out. Enrollment reaches 102, roughly two above the federal funding allowance, prompting the planned selection process.
Mark Upshaw owned the Grand Champion barrow weighing 242 pounds and sold for 242 dollars at one dollar per pound. Ben Ormand of Great Lakes Land and Cattle Company purchased the winning hog.
