A New York couple Mr. John and Mrs. Vincent Johnson from Portville New York were stopped by Portville officers Bill and Harvey Martin while en route to Phoenix Arizona. They were reportedly told they must follow the police car after being questioned and alleged to have been in a situation where they could face jail. The Johnsons were escorted to the Chamber of Commerce offices where they learned they were not under arrest but were guests of the chamber.

High school squads prepare for Friday scrimmage
Coach Arve Goodman will pit the Orange squad against the Black in the first practice game of the season Friday at 4. With 38 boys in the squad and 19 per side the teams are evenly matched. Both units show strong improvement this year and approach the opener with high spirit and determination.

Two Traffic Wrecks Mar Week's Record
Two crashes Wednesday near Lordsburg halted traffic on Highways 170 60 and 80. A head on collision east of Lordsburg involved Dean Pugh Holdensville Oklahoma and Sumter of Las Crues resulting in no serious injuries. The second wreck on Highway 80 west of Lordsburg saw Mrs Sam Shannon’s station wagon overturn after a flat tire. The Shannons were treated at the County hospital for non serious injuries.
