Pioneer railroaders visit Lordsburg in old timer gathering

A fine group from the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers led by Wade B. Smith visited Lordsburg on Saturday en route to Labor Parade events. Members recalled the town's rough past, chatted with Army captains on duty, and shared memories from the late 19th century.

Change over to category system for selective service announced

Brig. Gen. R. C. Charlton State Director of Selective Service says the switch to the category system for calling up registrants will be completed in about ten days in New Mexico. He notes most boards are already using the system and offers guidance from statewide tours to aid local boards. Mining loans to aid New Mexico development by Grazing Service

Percy FE Krewson and family will be away from Lordsburg for three weeks to hold an evangelistic meeting in Montebello California. Richard Mills, Pacific Bible Seminary graduate, will supply the pulpit at the Church of Christ. He is the younger brother of Le Roy Mills who supplied here for three months in the summer of 1940.

Ernest Harris of the Silver City Army recruiting office visited Lordsburg to recruit women for the WAAC. He will return every Thursday at about nine o'clock, open to enlist eligible men as well. Harris noted New Mexico may have five colored WAAC women but none recruited yet.

Public Service Hunters Net Big Catfish Load at Dam

A group of Community Public Service men fished the Elephant Tutt Dam over Sunday and hauled a hundred pounds of bass and catfish from the lake. A catfish weighed about 40 pounds.
