He will discuss humanitarian themes and share insights from travel and history. Tickets remain on sale through Mrs Ena Mitchell with turkey dinner by Robert Swan Unit.
Lloyd Dodds Mountain States Telephone public relations manager told the Lions Club meeting at El Charro how sound research has enriched life globally. He traced sound history from tom toms to modern methods, demonstrated sound visualization equipment, and showed stereophonic sound.
The Old Timers Parade opens Hidalgo County Fair and Rodeo on Friday September 16 at 10 am starting at Hidalgo High School. Participants urged to be there by 9 am. floats invited from schools churches businesses and organizations. Hi dalgo County Sheriffs Posse to ride. prizes of 25 15 and 10 for top floats with no duplications.
The Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce sponsors a free street dance starting at 9 30 p m Saturday night September 17 on the concrete slab in the business district. The Falcons of Douglas will perform for the event. The Old Timers Celebration theme is Famous Western Heroes.
The Lordsburg Woman's Club announces a Historical Quilt Exhibit and Silver Tea on September 16 17 and 18. Mary Jo Hazelton will present a book review for the Old Timers on Friday at 2 p.m. Activities include school children viewing times and a Sunday afternoon open exhibit.
Residents are invited to join a Sunday morning work party at nine to bring hoes rakes lunches and golf clubs to restore the Lordsburg golf course. The aim is to make it playable for an afternoon round and then reorganize the club with special invitation to high school boys to participate and play.
City council members chose to discharge Police Chief Frank Aguilera after an investigative report and a 4-3-1 ballot split. The decision followed prior admissions of locking six boys in a cell, intoxication, and obscene language.
Mrs. Jack Martensen reported a break in at the Malco service station early Sunday. A car with Minnesota plates was seen, and a suspect, Tom Whipple, was later returned to Lordsburg for arraignment before Justice C. L. Brown.
Bill Michaels, manager of the Paymaster Gin at Cotton City, said they ginned the first bale of the season last week. The bale weighed 504 pounds and was grown by Bill Veck on his Animas Valley farm in Hidalgo County.
The Lordsburg High School Mavericks defeated Silver City 19 to 7 on Friday night at Silver City. David Estrada scored all three Mavericks touchdowns on a 60 yard run and two 20 yard runs. Silver City finally found the end zone in the last quarter on an 80 yard interception return. The next game is at Hatch on September 16.
The Liberal regrets a week old obituary error correcting Mrs Nettie Conner to Mrs Mattie Conner. Officials acknowledge the misprint and apologize for the confusion caused.
