Hidalgo County Grand Jury toured the jail on August 27 1991 found overcrowding at fifteen inmates of capacity thirty one. They deemed maximum security clean with adequate space and sanitation very clean. Food service good, recreational and educational materials accessible. Women’s facility noted as too hot. Visitation adequate with fifteen minutes sessions. Yard work urged for inmate exercise. Training suggested for law enforcement on confidential informants and undercover narcotics investigations. Maxwell House plans a Lordsburg store by November carrying the same line as Silver City. Steve Maxwell says a second location will allow lower purchase costs and some cheaper lines for customers. The shop will occupy the former Amin’s Department Store building.

Services Held Sunday For Ricardo Rivera
Ricardo Silvas Rivera 80 of Lordsburg died Friday August 30 at Sunshine Haven Nursing Home. Visitation Monday 5 to 7 pm at St Josephs Catholic Church with a 7 pm vigil, funeral liturgy Tuesday 10 am at the same church officiated by Fr Paul Kao, interment Shakespeare Cemetery. Born April 11 1911 in Clifton Arizona, he was a laborer and a Lordsburg resident two years after living in California. survived by son Richard Rivera-Safford and daughters Patsy Aguilar-Safford Annie Ammsee Cosmopolis WA, three sisters Marian Talavera Lucy Varela Josefa Chavez and many grandchildren. Bacas Heather Funeral Chapel handled arrangements.
