In Lordsburg New Mexico a community feature highlights Red Cross efforts during wartime. Ellen Capps writes of mobilizing volunteers including Mrs Lundy and the Rodriquez couple to make children’s blouses and provide bandaging services for those at the front.
Col and Mrs C A Lundy hosted a Saturday cocktail supper at the Officers Club introducing three newly arrived nurses. Guests included Col and Mrs Roscoe Baker and Maj W P Churchill among many officers. Prizes went to Mrs Clarence Jack for nylon hose, Maj Churchill for neckties, and Lt J Smart won a blue Indian vase with Mrs Churchill winning a glass rabbit as booby. Mrs Lundy departs for El Paso, with return anticipated.
Mrs C A Lundy hosted a luncheon at the Officers Club on August 27. Mid season flowers decorated the lone table and room while Mrs Lundy spoke on Red Cross work. The afternoon was spent sewing children s blouses and the group earned 44 hours credit. Army policy aims to conserve gas and rubber by using escort wagons for camp transport, with stables expanding at the Internment Camp. Staff Sgt. O Bannon is seen handling draft horses and flipping a fly from a horse with a forty foot black snake.

Miss Grace Lucas, first instructor for Pie Town in Catron county, has moved to Cloverdale after being recommended by STC. The Pie Town tale drew national magazine interest with a fourteen page, illustrated feature. The town's humble housing cost thirty cents per family, and the area includes large local families and a notably large clan of children.
L. L. Travis of the Banner Mine Official Staff reported to Superintendent E. S. Bowman and a Liberal representative that the Hollandsworth Drilling Company completed Texas s hundred thousandth oil well a few weeks ago. It served as the discovery well in Hunt County. The Greenville Chamber of Commerce organized a large celebration.
Mrs. George H. Utter of Clifton reports Fred Turner Sr. a renowned mining man in the Carlisle district is very ill in Salt Lake City. The brief notice conveys concern for his health and notes his mining prominence.

Bartley McDonald and Gail Bowen announced the annual cattlemen event at Glenwood Canyon for Sunday September 6. Admission requires a pound or more of scrap metal or rubber, attendees must bring knives forks and plates, and sugar if using coffee. Proceeds go to a Silver City soldiers memorial.
Final date for filing lists of services under ceiling price regulations is September 10, 1942. Twenty five additional types of services have been added to those under ceilings including garages laundries repair services tailoring dyeing cleaning and pressing shoe repairing sign painting trash disposal. For doubt consult the Local Rationing Board list on file.
Mr and Mrs J W Burrus left Tuesday for San Francisco where Mr Burrus will enter the Southern Pacific General Hospital for treatment.
Basil L. Giles, petty officer first class, U.S. Navy, arrived from the Pacific coast on brief furlough with his family before going to Quonset Naval Base Rhode Island where he serves as an instructor in construction in radio masts and tanks. His naval experience has slimmed him allowing a natty uniform.
The American Legion and USO sponsored dance moved from September 6 to September 12 at La Fiesta to raise funds for USO work for soldiers in Lordsburg. Tickets are one dollar for men, fifty cents for servicemen in uniform, and free for Indies. Election returns will be announced during the dance.
Robert Bureh writes his mother from California that he has joined the QMC Motor Tank Battalion and expects to remain in that branch for an extended period.
The Lions Club held its first meeting with President Allan Bowman presiding in the hotel lounge on Tuesday noon. County Agent Paul Hudson spoke on Hidalgo County’s scrap drive and the club formed committees for attendance, finance, membership, publicity, and program with Mayfield named to organize program groups. Congressman Clinton P Anderson was announced as a guest but could not stay.
Mrs Wallace Brewer and her young daughter Jacqueline Mae are on an extended visit with Mrs Geo V Jeffus and family. Lt. Wallace Brewer, husband of Mrs Brewer, serves as a Tech in the U S Army Air Corps somewhere in South America and is in the Weather Bureau Division by trade.
James Allen and Fredwing study drafting and blueprint reading at Government Art School in Low Angeles. The note says to cultivate talent and place them in the front line.
Word reaches Alderman and Mrs Albert Hill that their son Allen Hill has joined the Navy at the San Diego base. Rating not reported.
Jamen Codding, 18, joined the Army Air Corps this week in the mechanic division. With many to depart in coming weeks, few will remain.

A Sunday morning service at the Methodist Church featured a dedication of a white silk service flag honoring twenty six soldiers. The program included solo and choral numbers, a sermon by Rev. Franklin B.R. Poage, and readings of soldiers’ names with relatives present.
Glenn Moses of Lovduburg New Mexico was appointed to fill the football team and track coaching vacancy at El Paso High. He replaces Elmer Knox who resigned to take a post in Dallas city schools and will report for duty in September. Moses is well known in New Mexico high school coaching and officiating circles.
September 10 meeting in the county courthouse at 7 30 to 8 00 p m urges all merchants and business owners under ceiling price rules to attend. Mr Vernon G Sorrell State Price Officer Office of Price Administration will attend with a special input from the Regional Office in Denver.
Assembly of God Church announces a revival starting Sunday August 6 to be held in a city tent a few blocks east of downtown near the highway. Special music each night invites all, with emphasis on welcoming Army boys. Rev. E. R. Harris, pastor.
Congressman Clinton P. Anderson greeted by locals during a brief Tuesday visit as he tours the state. He declined a speaking campaign, focusing on meeting friends and learning how to aid the state before returning to congressional duties in Washington.
Western Union announces J A Wathen becomes relief manager for an indefinite period and Mrs Kay Henry succeeds him. Henry recently served in Ennis Texas and will reside with Mrs Wathen as she assumes duties amid industry wide war time shifts.
Mrs Ernest Bowman wife of the mine superintendent underwent a major operation at Providence Hospital Peso and is recovering satisfactorily She is remembered as a pioneer mother and has raised a family with her husband She was moved to a hotel Wednesday and hopes to return home late this week
Survive Club announces a sequence of hostess duties for the week starting Friday September 4 with Mr. and Mrs. G. BP. Jeffrn and continuing through Thursday September 10 with Mrs. Bic her and Mrs. F. R. Poage. The schedule lists individual hostesses for each day including Mr. and Mrs. Orfa Mann and Mrs. Page Clayton among others.
Local citizens queried the Chamber of Commerce about a story claiming a Japanese cadet graduated from West Point. The Adjutant General’s office replied there has never been a Japanese admitted to the United States Military Academy, ending the rumor.
Toby M Reynolds and his son Robert Jr depart Tuesday morning for Roswell. Robert will begin a full program at the renowned New Mexico Military Institute to complete a full course.
