Hidalgo County Draft Board Seeks Registrations and School Faculty
Registrations began as scheduled in Hidalgo County with 24 youths registered Monday and 26 Tuesday. The wotsburg School faculty for 1948 49 includes Superintendent Wesley Freeburg and Principal Roy Melugin along with a full staff in subjects from Spanish to Home Economics and English. National Guard Returns Home After Fort Bliss Training
National Guard unit Battery C 716th AAA Gun Bn New Mexico returned home after two weeks of training at Fort Bliss Texas. The men praised the experience noting improved skills in radar radio signal and weaponry. Commanders hailed the unit as among the finest groups they had trained with.

Moore Sets Highest Firing Score in National Guard Unit
2nd Lt. J. F. Moore executive officer of Btry C 716th AAA Gun Bn NMNG Lordsburg New Mexico fired 192 of 195 with the M 1 rifle on the Army C Course during the New Mexico and Texas National Guard encampment at Fort Bliss Texas August 15 to 29. This was the highest score recorded by the National Guard during the encampment.
