Juveniles Sent To Boys School For Auto Theft

Two youths aged 13 and 14 were sentenced in juvenile court to the New Mexico Boys School at Springer to serve until release or age 21. One was sent to the State Hospital for observation. they stole a 1961 Chevrolet from Bob Calloway in Lordsburg, fled toward El Paso, and were captured after fleeing Deming by car.

Lions Start Fund To Transport Children To School Cafetorium

The Lordsburg Lions Club begins a fund with an initial 50 to haul Wilson and Southside school children to the school cafetorium at lunch. Two bus operators will transport at 25 each, needing about 450 for the year. The Parent Teachers Assn. will administer the fund with Eva Williams as treasurer.

John Johnson Sr. Breaks Thigh in Ladder Fall

John Johnson Sr. breaks thigh in three places in a ladder fall with his son. He underwent surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix Tuesday morning with pins placed in the fractures. Mrs. Johnson reports he is doing fairly well and may be in the hospital five or six days.

Bryant Honored on 25th Anniversary With Telephone Company

Herbert H. Buddy Bryant manager of Mountain States Telephone in Tucumcari marked twenty five years in the communications industry. Born in Weatherford Texas he began as a lineman in 1936 and progressed through roles in Clovis Artesia Lordsburg and Tucumcari where he has served since 1964. He and his wife have two children. A dinner at Del's Restaurant Thursday August 31 will honor him with a Bell System service pin.

Municipal Schools Dismissals Ahead of Labor Day and Fair

The Municipal Schools will be dismissed on Monday September 4 for Labor Day festivities and again on Friday September 15 for the parade and opening of the Fair.

11th Hidalgo County Fair and Rodeo set with parade

The Eleventh Annual Hidalgo County Fair and Rodeo plus Old Timers Parade are planned for September 15 with a 10 00 a m parade. The Junior Cal Sale by the Elks Club goes at 2 00 p m. on Friday. Chamber of Commerce games run Friday and Saturday nights after rodeo on Railroad Ave. A free street dance Saturday at 9 00 p m features a western band. The Sheriff Posse Ranch Hand Rodeo, Friday and Saturday at 7 30 p m, offers seven events with prizes for best Western dress. Prizes are awarded in calf roping team tying bull roping bareback bronc riding surfacing and kids barrel races. Stock used in the rodeo will be furnished and handled by Rowan and Frank Willis.

Old Timers Form Parade and Fair Committees

George Jeffus, president, says Old Timers appoint chairmen for ceremony planning in Lordsburg. A banquet and turkey dinner will cap Thursday Sept 14 at the auditorium with Calvin Horn of Albuquerque as guest speaker. Friday parade at 10 to the Fair Grounds precedes official fair opening.

Munsey Named Supervisor for Southwestern District

Lt. A. B. Munsey of the New Mexico State Police was appointed supervisor of the Southwestern New Mexico district with headquarters in Deming. He replaces Capt. Joe Roach and will oversee Grant Hidalgo Luna and Catron Counties after 12 years in the force. He and Mrs. Munsey have two children, Wiley aged 12 and Linda Ann aged 7.

Business houses to close on Labor Day

All business houses including the bank and the drug store will be closed Monday September 4 in observance of Labor Day.

Texas freight firm El Paso based Texas-Arizona Freight joins national Truck on for Safety drive over the Labor Day weekend. Duncan Child Killed by Lordsburg Judge's Car

Six year old Albert Gandara Monares Jr of Duncan was killed when struck by a 4 car driven by Albert M Stevens 57 of Lordsburg near the Duncan business district. Eye witness Allan Hall of Lordsburg said a tractor parked on the roadside caused the child and a girl to dart in front of Stevens car. Stevens is a Lordsburg police magistrate.

Lordsburg High School Football Season Tickets On Sale

Lordsburg High School offers season tickets for five home games. Prices: students two dollars, adults four dollars. single game admissions are fifty cents for students and one dollar for adults. Season tickets avoid lines at the game.
