Observation Post urges parents to set curfews and monitor teens to curb evasive behavior. The piece notes two high school burglaries after ten at night involving seemingly good kids, praised city police for quick arrests, and warns against assuming “my boy or girl” never misbehaves.

Two days bring tragedy with three dead and one in critical condition after a two-vehicle crash on State Route 82 south of Virden injures Anita Vega and Duncan. another man, Santiago Salazar, dies later at Lordsburg hospital. A separate wreck on Highway 70 west of town kills one and injures three as Mexican nationals travel east in a pickup with California plates. State Police investigate with officers Rutland, Houston, and Capt. Roach at the scene.
Tommy Turrentine was seriously injured last Friday night when the car in which he rode overturned on the second curve south of town on Banner Mine road. Driver Douglas Lee Houser had minor injuries. Turrentine suffered multiple rib and back injuries.
The Cham ber of Commerce held a primary election at the chamber office on Oct. 27 to select four directors for a three year term. A counting committee including Carl Lehman Hugh Pace Ena Mitchell Leo Cohen and Eugene Montague oversaw results. Nine candidates advance to the ballot due to a tie for eighth place: Amin Bowman Cohen Dockum Freeburg Hitson Jeffus Morgan Speer.
This week's Who's Who prize goes to Mrs. Newsom for correctly guessing the clues. The article notes other entries and misnamings, with Harry Truman among mock picks, and announces next week’s box location at Art's Garage for entries.
The American Legion post reports three rifles missing from the gun rack and asks members to return any borrowed rifles to the post locker. Commander Harber Heather notes no records of where these rifles are and urges prompt return.

The annual New Mexico Chamber of Commerce Managers Association convention was held in Alamogordo last weekend. A workshop by Les Flesner of the U.S. Chamber drew strong attendance. Lordsburg manager Mrs. Margaret Codding attended all sessions and the banquet where El Paso banker Chris P. Fox spoke.
Two juvenile offenders from a Salinas California juvenile home were chased after taking a car owned by Homer Brooks. They fled from a local attack, were pursued by state police through blocks at Silver City and Deming, and were later captured near Tatum New Mexico. The car had been stolen in California and the youths admitted breaking into school stadium dressing rooms. Brooks and his wife pursued to retrieve their vehicle.
John Moran Lowrance 59 died in a local hospital after a long illness. Funeral at Heather Chapel followed by burial in Mountain View Cemetery. He was a Texas native, WWII veteran, and a First Methodist Church member with surviving widow Frances Hodges Lowrance and several siblings.
