Democratic speakers defend Roosevelt policies and New Deal gains in Hidalgo County rally. Chavez, Patton, Gonzalez, Worden, and Armijo praise relief, social security, and labor acts while pledging neutrality in foreign policy and strong defense.
Hon B C Hernandez former New Mexico congressman Mrs E A Perrault former State secretary Mrs Theresa Beiner senate candidate and J L Augustine state representative candidate spoke to a keen audience at the Aztec Theatre. A dance followed sponsored by the Hidalgo County Republican Committee despite rain with Mrs Frank Velacot hosting at Grant county headquarters.
Mr. and Mrs. H. I. Grimes and Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Pearson of Oklahoma City arrive for a several days outing. The male quartet members, joined by Joe Engberg and Pard Rogers as cook, head to the Black Range and Mogollon territory for big game hunting. The hunting party returns with a fine buck and the women enjoy the winter sun and outings to Banner mine.
Lordsburg officials and Ritter-Walker announce a lavish eight thing: the Texaco station’s old auto courts are being rebuilt as fourteen two apartment cabins. Contractors Heather and De Paoli oversee 27,000 adobe bricks, air conditioned units, steel sash and hand hammered electric fixtures for a luxury Mexican style motel court aimed to attract tourists nationwide.
The sudden death of Ralph Allison former manager of the Anita Copper company and later employed by mining firms in the Philippines and South America is reported. He fell ill after Mrs. Allison left for the Philippines and died. The widow plans burial in Ohio. sympathy is extended by Lordsburg. Estella Ballard visited Animas with Silver City ties this week.
Rev. A C Bates of Amarillo Texas superintendent of the Texas District Council of the assemblies of God will lead a Bible conference Friday and Saturday October 30 and 31 at the local assembly of God six blocks south of Hotel Hidalgo on Animas highway. Services are 10 00 am 200 pm and 730 pm daily with visitors from surrounding towns expected. A cordial invitation is extended to all. Jesse B White Pastor.

The News Bureau at Mary Hardin Baylor College reports Miss Sara Gass has been chosen for membership in a freshman society on campus. This honor places her among her freshman classmates and is expected to bring good honors to her hometown and family.
Mrs. R. EB. Witherell from Lordsburg spent a week at the Port Bliss annual horse show and stayed with Consul and Mrs. George P. Shaw. She calls the event a huge success and credits Port Bliss and El Paso residents for their efforts.
City Attorney Vearle Payne and family returned from Virden with a huge box of dahlias for the Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. John B. Jones of Virden helped. bouquets from the Nige box were admired by hundreds including state and national party candidates.
The Jubilee Circle met at Mrs Cavin's home with hostesses Mrs Cavin and Deaton. Members present included Bryan Hall Blanche Woods Lennard Pierce Mearns Cloyd Miller Allen Woods Ed Malone Lundgren Moses Peterson Crider Bonar Chase Cochrane Dunagan and McNeal guests. Cake and iced tea followed. The meeting discussed the upcoming week of prayer with programs Thursday Friday and Sunday. Ruth Brown of Lordsburg Central School visited in Mescal.
Lordsburg welcomed Commissioner Benjamin Orames and a Salvation Army motor tour with a brief street program. Lt. Col. Sansom and Major Rooney led the party, with Baron Auriemma and Mayor Brown highlighting the visit and a large local delegation.
Lions Club notes show absence of President Miller and teachers reducing turnout. Holt presided and highlighted Salvation Army rally. Brimberry earned applause as a top speaker at the Arizona State Convention of the Churches of Christ. Marcus Neeley celebrated his wedding day with club applause. Tom Taggart reported on Little Theatre and urged book and copyright purchases to support a play, funds to return on presentation. District Governor Russell requested a suitable date for an official visit and November 12 as Ladies Night, likely guest of honor.
L. P. Springer and sister in law Mrs Turk Moore have returned to La Veta Colorado with O. K. Leonard and family who traveled to Denver to visit relatives. Mrs Springer injured in an auto accident near Hot Springs remains with her daughters Mrs Baxter and Mrs Brewer as the hand wound causes trouble though a quick return home is hoped.
The National Government through the NYA opens a Capitan New Mexico camp for girls to learn trades and improve health and living. While at the camp participants receive five dollars per month toward living expenses and full information is available by registering with Gerald Puller or Mrs Walter at the ABA office.
A Lordsburg audience met October 23 at 8 00 p m in Sanders and Taggart law offices to organize the Lordsburg Players. Officers elected were Thomas Taggart president Mrs Lundgren vice president and Mrs C D Martin secretary treasurer. A publicity committee was named and a play has been selected for public presentation soon.
The Muir and Kipp families purchase a 193 Dodge sedan from Olney Motor Company. The four door vehicle is described as a lovely battle ship gray and showcases the era’s automotive styling.
Mr and Mrs A L Green and Lewis with Mesdames Ralph Clark and Edith James visited Mogolion Mountain area on Sunday for a leisure trip.
Lordsburg was awarded the state basketball tournament for March after hosting the district event with praise. Referees Rob Carson and N Jalen of El Paso are expected to officiate, having served seven years in the district tournament without complaints. Dates are March 11, 12 and 19, 1097, with service clubs donating trophies and Lordsburg covering hotel accommodations.
James Connelly writes to County Treasurer Earle Kerr praising remittances of 99 206 07 on 1035 taxes, 102 9 percent of state budget, and notes neat reports, prompt receipts, and regular warrants. He commends county taxpayers for faithfulness and proper disbursement under difficult finances.
Ming Dorothy M. Walker, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs M P Walker, wed Marcus T Neely in a Tuesday morning ceremony at their sub urban home in Tucson. Rev Pred W Niedringhaus officiated as chrysanthemums in fall colors festooned the event with a buffet luncheon. The couple, after a Phoenix visit, reside at the Hotel Hidalgo in Lordsburg with Miss Winifred Walker as maid of honor and Neal Gammon as a family friend.
Alumni urged to attend a 7:30 PM football game as Mavericks honor the school. Organizers ask former students to gather at the campus for the event and connect it with the annual banquet and dance.
Mrs Hallie Everett plans a monthlong trip to the state of Washington following the election. She will visit her daughter Ruth and other relatives during the stay.
Joe Yarbrough of Animas was seen in town on Wednesday, with locals noting his visit and presence in the community.
Reverend J J Brimberry of the Church of Christ travels to Phoenix to speak at the Arizona Convention of the Churches of Christ. He delivers two major addresses and will lead the adult Bible school session at Central Church. Mrs Brimberry remains with the Lordsburg household guiding the children until they return after Sunday.
Ben Swope and his wife visited their daughter Mga Uline Griffin in Hanover on her birthday when heavy rain the day before caused their car to skid on Goon Neck Way. Mrs. Griffin died from injuries Tuesday at Santa Rita Hospital. Funeral held at Santa Rita and burial in Paso. Community expresses sympathy.
Thomi y GB. Catron and Judge Charles Catron sponsor aerial ads across western New Mexico with Bil Cutter piloting, distributing sunflower emblem souvenirs bearing English and Spanish messages praising state Republicans and paying tribute to late Senators Thomas B. Catron and Bronson Cutting. The Cutting and Catron heirs fund plane distributions on eastern and western sides of the state in memory of the senators.
R. M. Reynolds announces rallies at Rodeo Friday night and Virden Saturday night with speakers Judges Carl P. Duniton Hon Hugh Williams and Reber M. Wiley publisher of River City Enterprise. All interested voters are invited to attend these events.
Mrs. Julius Schwarz served as the luncheon hostess for Mrs. E W Ward wife of Silver City mayor, with their young daughter Edwina present along with Mrs. R P Pitch and Miss Rosa Schwarz on Thursday noon.
SCS engineer G. Ty Howell, in charge of several states, visited Thursday and will oversee the Lions Club event on November 24.
Mr and Mrs Chas Walker and Mrs C Walker of Silver City were visiting friends yesterday. Rev and Mrs C B are moving to Albuquerque today.
