Jolly Quartet Visits From Oklahoma City

Mr. and Mrs. H. I. Grimes and Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Pearson of Oklahoma City arrive for a several days outing. The male quartet members, joined by Joe Engberg and Pard Rogers as cook, head to the Black Range and Mogollon territory for big game hunting. The hunting party returns with a fine buck and the women enjoy the winter sun and outings to Banner mine.

Motel Biltmore Takes Blue Ribbon In State

Lordsburg officials and Ritter-Walker announce a lavish eight thing: the Texaco station’s old auto courts are being rebuilt as fourteen two apartment cabins. Contractors Heather and De Paoli oversee 27,000 adobe bricks, air conditioned units, steel sash and hand hammered electric fixtures for a luxury Mexican style motel court aimed to attract tourists nationwide.

Death of Ralph Allison Linked to Mining Work

The sudden death of Ralph Allison former manager of the Anita Copper company and later employed by mining firms in the Philippines and South America is reported. He fell ill after Mrs. Allison left for the Philippines and died. The widow plans burial in Ohio. sympathy is extended by Lordsburg. Estella Ballard visited Animas with Silver City ties this week.

Texa s Assemblies of God bishop to lead Amarillo Bible conference

Rev. A C Bates of Amarillo Texas superintendent of the Texas District Council of the assemblies of God will lead a Bible conference Friday and Saturday October 30 and 31 at the local assembly of God six blocks south of Hotel Hidalgo on Animas highway. Mrs. R. EB. Witherell from Lordsburg spent a week at the Port Bliss annual horse show and stayed with Consul and Mrs. George P. Shaw. She calls the event a huge success and credits Port Bliss and El Paso residents for their efforts.

City Attorney Vearle Payne and family returned from Virden with a huge box of dahlias for the Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. John B. Jones of Virden helped. bouquets from the Nige box were admired by hundreds including state and national party candidates.

The Jubilee Circle met at Mrs Cavin's home with hostesses Mrs Cavin and Deaton. Lordsburg welcomed Commissioner Benjamin Orames and a Salvation Army motor tour with a brief street program. Lt. Col. Sansom and Major Rooney led the party, with Baron Auriemma and Mayor Brown highlighting the visit and a large local delegation.

Lions Club notes show absence of President Miller and teachers reducing turnout. Holt presided and highlighted Salvation Army rally. Brimberry earned applause as a top speaker at the Arizona State Convention of the Churches of Christ. Marcus Neeley celebrated his wedding day with club applause. Tom Taggart reported on Little Theatre and urged book and copyright purchases to support a play, funds to return on presentation. District Governor Russell requested a suitable date for an official visit and November 12 as Ladies Night, likely guest of honor.

Returned to Colorado After Autumn Family Visit

L. P. Springer and sister in law Mrs Turk Moore have returned to La Veta Colorado with O. K. Leonard and family who traveled to Denver to visit relatives. Mrs Springer injured in an auto accident near Hot Springs remains with her daughters Mrs Baxter and Mrs Brewer as the hand wound causes trouble though a quick return home is hoped.

Camp offers NYA girls up Capitan New Mexico

The National Government through the NYA opens a Capitan New Mexico camp for girls to learn trades and improve health and living. While at the camp participants receive five dollars per month toward living expenses and full information is available by registering with Gerald Puller or Mrs Walter at the ABA office.

Lordsburg Little Theatre Group Forms

A Lordsburg audience met October 23 at 8 00 p m in Sanders and Taggart law offices to organize the Lordsburg Players. Officers elected were Thomas Taggart president Mrs Lundgren vice president and Mrs C D Martin secretary treasurer. A publicity committee was named and a play has been selected for public presentation soon.

Lordsburg to Host State Basketball Tournament in March

Lordsburg was awarded the state basketball tournament for March after hosting the district event with praise. Referees Rob Carson and N Jalen of El Paso are expected to officiate, having served seven years in the district tournament without complaints. Dates are March 11, 12 and 19, 1097, with service clubs donating trophies and Lordsburg covering hotel accommodations.

Ben Swope and his wife visited their daughter Mga Uline Griffin in Hanover on her birthday when heavy rain the day before caused their car to skid on Goon Neck Way. Mrs. Griffin died from injuries Tuesday at Santa Rita Hospital. Funeral held at Santa Rita and burial in Paso. Community expresses sympathy.
