Lordsburg Center to Open Wednesday for Public Tour
The Lordsburg Special Events Center will formally open to the public at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 2, per Mayor Clark Smith. After the ribbon cutting, center employees will conduct a tour of the facility.

Unmarked Grave Found On Bill Oliver Property
An unmarked grave was found on Bill Oliver’s property while digging to bury rabbage. A wooden box 6 by 18 by 18 inches contained skeletal remains, surrounded by dirt, with clothing still visible. Officials reported no foul play and expect the body to be reburied at Mountain View Cemetery. the site lies between Mountain View Cemetery and Lordsburg Draw.

Optimist Club Halloween Carnival at Youth Center

Altuna Trial Underway In District Court
A jury trial begins Tuesday in State v Michael Altuna in district court on counts of criminal damage to property larceny under 100 breaking and entering and bribery of a witness for an April 9 1988 incident at the American Restaurant involving a four pack of wine coolers. He allegedly sought to influence a witness. eight women and four men sit on the jury. A separate October 1988 preliminary hearing on robbery with two bank bags and about $3000 in cash from Saucedo's Supermarket was held. Altuna was bound over and arraignment pending. Co-defendants include Andy Sanchez and Edward Croom.

Bigelow Wins 2.9 Million Arizona Lottery Jackpot
Bruce Bigelow 47 of Playas won the Arizona Lottery 2.9 million jackpot after buying a ticket at Circle K in Douglas. He plans annual payments around 113000 and may move from the area after interviews with media. He bought a Lincoln Town Car and a Timex after collecting the check in Tucson. He quipped that New Mexico should have a lottery.

Mystery Plane Crash Near Windmill Estates on Highway 9
A Cesna 210 Centurion single engine plane belly landed in a field by Windmill Estates on Highway 9 early Sunday. Sheriff Lloyd Payne notes the plane was deliberately burned with little damage from the landing and signs of a nearby vehicle suggest a suspected drug transfer. The crash went unreported and the aircraft is registered to a man in Anthony, New Mexico.

Lordsburg Council Hires Staff and Considers Sanitation Truck
Lordsburg City Council met at the HUD projects office with a brief agenda. Three new staff, Johnna Arredondo, Rudy Holguin and Franco Cattucci, were hired for the Lordsburg Special Events Center. two others were approved for employment but not yet hired. The council approved advertising for a sanitation truck and a $1.00 per month solid waste rate increase, noting unclear funds and potential interfund borrowing. A special per diem resolution for out-of-state city employee trips was approved. The Lordsburg Housing Authority discussed HUD Regulations, which were approved as presented.
