In San Juan County the Republican gathering in Lordsburg and Virden featured Elmer F Tay and supporters urging a direct primary. Speaker Ricketts of the Farmington Times-Hustler and Marshall Owens supported Tay while condemning Miles’s Democratic record on the primary law.

Lords Civic Choral Club Forms in Lordsburg

The Lords Civic Choral Club held its first meeting at the Methodist church with over thirty attendees including visitors from out of town. Plans were laid for regular rehearsals at 8:30 on Wednesdays and 7 on Thursdays at local churches, aiming to grow membership and invite all residents of Lordsburg interested in music.

Distinguished guests visit Lordsburg from San Diego

Lordsburg welcomed George L. Barney Lilla Barney and O B Wetzell of San Diego. Barney is an uncle of the late Marquis the famed author who called Lordsburg the meekest little city in the U S While with the Chamber of Commerce Mr Wetzell spoke about the late author’s best works.

Important meeting on transfer of fair grounds

The Southwestern New Mexico Livestock and Fair Association will hold an executive meeting in the office of County Agent Harlan Black on Saturday. The gathering aims to finalize the transfer of lands from the McGrath Brothers to the fair trustees and to commence construction plans and grounds improvements with George Cureton presiding.

Judge W A Leonard now Newport Beach City Judge and his family visited relatives as H S Hunter of the El Paso Times recounted Leonard’s 1882 beginnings as a typesetter for the El Paso Herald and his later roles. He recalled the Western Liberal Lordsburg Liberal origin and Geronimo era tales, noting age and ongoing interest in New Mexico’s old timers.

Hot Springs High School Forfeits Games After Reprimand

At a New Mexico meeting in Roswell the New Mexico State Teachers Association reprimanded Hot Springs high school officials for using ineligible football players this season. As a result the team forfeited games against Lordsburg and Alamogordo.

El Paso Times columnist Hubert S. Hunter and wife Mere Hunter spent part of two days in Lordsburg, arriving Friday noon and leaving Saturday morning. Mere displayed antiques meant for their El Paso home, while Hunter’s long knowledge of the Southwest cements his status as a staple editorial figure in the sunshine region.

Schulze Family Returns From East Coast Motoring Trip

Mr and Mrs O Schulze and daughter Loretta returned from an extended motor tour across the eastern states. They visited the Lincoln birthplace fire place in Indiana and noted wrecked cars in Tennessee and Pennsylvania. In St Louis they saw three stop lights and praised New York police courtesy.

J H Cauthen, 76, wool and mohair buyer and owner of fluorapatite properties in Red Rock district, died Monday evening at his Lampasas home. Survived by widow Mrs Ruth Spann, a brother and a sister. Mrs Cauthen died in 1916.

Sheriff In Cloverdale Holds Two Suspects In Rustling Probe
