City Council held a special meeting on Thursday October 18 to consider Resolution 336 authorizing eight million dollars in industrial revenue bonds for Non-Metallic Mining to fund an Anhydrous Hydrogen Fluoride Plant near the Gary Overpass on BLM land. Non-Metallic plans full production in Silver City, with investors handling bond sales. city acts as conduit. Mayor Hill added a stipulation with a one year window to sell the revenue bonds before the agreement expires.

A C Rodriguez was elected as the new Chamber of Commerce Board President at a Tuesday meeting. David Brazier was re-elected 1st Vice President and Jim Bizzell became 2nd Vice President. Proxies were submitted by Rita Lindsay and Gary Corbell. The board discussed Rodriguez acting as Co-President temporarily to cover duties before year end. A Citizen of the Month for October was selected with announcements planned for November 2. The annual banquet set for November 3 features Wildflower music, pre sold tickets at options of 20 per couple or 12.50 single, catered by Jim’s American Restaurant. Joaquin Altamirano dies in Albuquerque at 54
Joaquin Altamirano 54, born August 16 1930 in Stiens, died October 19 in Albuquerque after 21 years there. He served in the Korean War and was active at the International All Faiths Center as Sunday School superintendent and head musician. Prayer services were held at the Center, with funeral Monday at Chapel in the Garden of French Mortuary and burial at Sunset Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife Elena and many relatives in Lordsburg, Albuquerque, and other states.

Charles Ray, 79, Dies in Silver City
Charles Ray died October 18 at Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City. Born July 16, 1905 in Worcester Massachusetts, he moved to Lordsburg in 1932 to ranch and was a New Mexico Cattle Growers Association member. Survived by daughter Kathleen Marley of Roswell, siblings, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Funeral October 20 at Heather Chapel, 2:00 p.m., burial Mt.
