Local Lions Club To Hold Annual Broom Sale Nov 6-7

The Lordsburg Lions Club will run its annual broom sale on Friday afternoon and all day Saturday November 6-7 to raise funds from brooms mops and related items. They also seek used eyeglasses for a statewide project with eye glass banks aiding Chilean students. Elks Lodge Expands Cerebral Palsy Aid in New Mexico

The New Mexico Elks Association, 10 500 members with more than 600 000 spent on cerebral palsy efforts in twelve years, adds two therapists Walter A Kincaid and Joseph Arteaga to cover northern and southern regions. They travel statewide in station wagons to visit medical professionals and assist about 1 500 children aided over the period. Lordsburg hosts one of 18 lodges as a local support node.

Youth Injured By Gunshot Now Recovering

Chuck McCarty, 20 year old son of Sheriff and Mrs. Leroy McCarty, is reported recovering satisfactorily at Providence Memorial Hospital El Paso from a gunshot wound suffered last Friday morning at his Shakespeare Street home. The bullet clipped the left lung and lodged in the back. doctors do not plan to remove it. He was treated at Hidalgo General Hospital then transferred to El Paso by ambulance and should be released within a week to convalesce at his grandparents near Anthony.

Time To Enter District Wool Contest Details

The Make It With Wool Contest for District 7 will be held November 21 in Deming. District boundaries include Hidalgo Luna Grant and Sierra counties. Animas Post Office To Be Dedicated

Formal dedication of the Animas Post Office will be conducted at 11 am Thursday October 29. Felix Gauthier Jr postmaster says a guest speaker from the Post Office Department will attend. Gauthier will receive a flag flown over the U S Capitol and Washington DC. An open house and refreshments follow for the public.

New Mexico Voters Face Eight Million Bond Issue For Colleges

New Mexico's $8 million bond issue to remodel and build college facilities faces a November vote. President Roger B Corbett of New Mexico State University cites overcrowded classrooms and limited libraries as proof of need. Enrollment this year reached about 21 000 across state colleges. Property owners would pay about 77 cents per thousand dollars of assessed valuation annually for eight years. The bond funds will be shared among six state universities and three special schools, with distribution decided after the election by the State Board of Education Finance and the State Board of Finance.
