Dedication Service Planned for New Abi l Church Building

The Assembly of God Church plans a dedicatory service on Thursday October 29 officiated by Rev Raymond Hudgill from the Mexico District. Mayor Alan Koff will attend and greet attendees. The day includes fall convention activities with morning and afternoon services and visits from former pastors Rev Dunagan Rev Robert S Bubb Rev Smith. A revival begins Friday November 1 with Evangelist A R Aman City bringing the message.

Spring Convention Of Inisbury Legion District Held In Glen

The American Legion district and Auxiliary held a joint spring convention in Glen over the weekend. District officers absent included David Strain and Ray Howell. A banquet and devotional service were part of the program, with speakers from Las Cruces and Albuquerque.

Highway Survey Crew Starts Work In Area Tuesday

A New Mexico State Highway Department survey team began work in the Lordsburg area to study possible alignments for a U S 70 improvement from the Lordsburg underpass toward Duncan Arizona. The crew of about 30 days is led by Paul E Sowers with D B Dixon as chief highway engineer who promised careful property protection and no fence damage during surveying.

Famous Western Heroes 1960 Theme For Hidalgo Old Timers

The Hidalgo County Old Timers met October 15 1959 at the High School with Wesley Freeburg presiding. Officers elected include P M Chase Emma J Scofield Ena Mitchell John A Johnson George P Jeffus and George E Pendleton. A 1960 theme Famous Western Heroes was chosen to aid parade floats. A membership drive and a county wide marker project led by George Pendleton will survey Hidalgo points of interest and place markers including Smugglers Trail graves and old hideouts to preserve county history.

American Legion Meeting Postponed

The local American Legion post meeting scheduled for Monday night October 26 is postponed due to conflicting dates. Post Commander Harber Heather said a joint entertainment meeting with the Auxiliary is planned for a date in November to be announced.

Duncan Wildcats Edge Mavericks 19 18 in Hard-Fought Victory

Duncan Arizona Wildcats nipped the Mavericks 19 to 18 after a rugged game. Key players included Duncan fullback Gerald Richins and Mavericks quarterback Ray Rodriguez. Next game set for October 30 against Hot Springs as Teachers Convention forces a bye week.

Hidalgo Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce directors protested to the Corporation Commission over the Pee et Khe Soythe nu 8 Line through Hadista Animas and Rodeo. The board considered home mail delivery, noting Postal Department requirements nearly met and awaiting authority decisions while inviting public input.

Officer Injured in Arrest After Garage Break In

Police Lt. Frank V. Aguilera was injured in a scuffle with Reynaldo Roybal after arresting him for DWI. Roybal broke away twice as Aguilera tried to place him in a jail cell, then fled. Roybal was jailed after authorities called for aid. Nearby break ins affected Bill's Garage and Sarge's Shell Service with currency and small change stolen and tires missing.
