Rural Electrification Admin Approves 50000 Loan for Co op

The Lordsburg Liberal reports a telegram from Senator Dennis Chavez that the Rural Electrification Administration in Washington has approved a loan of 50000 to the Duncan Valley Electric Cooperative. The funds will be relended to cooperative members for purchase and installation of electrical and irrigation facilities in the Lordsburg jurisdiction.

House to House Soliciting For Carnival Queen Banned

School children were going from house to house asking for funds to support their carnival queen. This was not the intention of the school or the PTA which sponsors the event. Children were advised to stop. Coin boxes in businesses are allowed with owner permission and no personal soliciting.

Contestants For Halloween Carnival Oct 31

The community Halloween Carnival seeks King and Queen candidates with bake and candy sales by grades to raise funds. Each penny counts as a vote and the contest closes Oct 24, 1950 at noon. Participating grades list teachers and candidates.

Republican Caravan Arrives in Lordsburg for Rally

Ed Mechem leads the Republican caravan into Lordsburg on October 18 with a City Hall rally. Paul F. Larrazolo and Charles H. Corlett spoke on party platforms and tax savings, urging voters to choose the ticket best for New Mexico. Jose E. Armijo also addressed the crowd.

Local Golfers Invited To Sunday Tournament

Lordsburg Golf Club members are invited to a one day tour nament by Mt. Graham Golf Assn in Safford Arizona on Sunday October 22 starting at 8 30 a m. Directions are to turn west at the railroad tracks and 8th Ave then follow an unpaved road to the course.

Old Timer Parade and Junior High Football Game Adverts

Over 30 floats featured in the Old Timer Parade. A Junior high football game follows at 3 00 P M on the local football field with Silver City Junior as the opponent. Admission is 20 cents for students and 36 cents for adults.

Old Timer Association Parade Marks First Anniversary

The Old Timer Association sponsored parade celebrated its first anniversary in Hidalgo County with 30 plus floats city vehicles bicycles walkers and riders. A school band directed by Lyman Hall provided music while the banquet and dance followed at the Legion hall. The Lordsburg Woman's Club wagon float featured President Mrs. Earle Kerr as driver.

Legion Auxiliary Sponsors Many Activities

The American Legion Auxiliary was highly active last weekend. They helped serve dinner to over 100 at the Old Timer Association banquet in the Legion hall. Committee led by President Mrs. Walter Dunagan included Mrs. Jack Morgan and others. Elizabeth Winters and Ruth Bishop attended events in Hot Springs that evening.

Sun Princess To Be Chosen From Lordsburg

The 16th Annual Southwestern Sun Carnival in El Paso asks Lordsburg to nominate a Sun Princess. Chamber of Commerce secretary R B Ownby is urged to confirm by November 1 if a local young woman will participate, with plans to arrange entertainment for the Royal Court.

Bells To Ring For United Nations Day Nationwide

Lordsburg and Hidalgo County join the nation in marking United Nations Day by ringing bells at 10 03 A M Mountain Standard Time. The World Freedom Bell in Berlin will chime as a beacon of hope during the dedication observed across churches schools and communities.

Rise in advertising rates takes effect November 1 1950

Due to higher newsprint and printing costs the display advertising rate increases to 45 cents per column inch starting November 1, 1950. Classified rates already increased to 35 cents minimum for 15 words and 2 cents per word after.
