Juvenile Case Details and Sentences In Local Court

The hearing covered four juveniles and several adults. Some youths received six months probation and driver and curfew restrictions while adults faced prison terms up to two to five years for marijuana and related charges. Local officials and attorneys from Silver City and Deming attended the session led by Judge H Vearle Pays.

Lordsburg Board Names Kern Smith Architect for School Project

The Lordsburg Municipal School Board appointed Kern Smith of Carlsbad as architect for its building program. Plans may be ready early next year to let contracts. Smith, a Clovis native, earned a UC Industrial Design degree in 1949 and has practiced since 1950. He served on Carlsbad City Planning Commission and the New Mexico State Board of Examiners for Architects.

Post Office Extends Hours for Mail Dispatch

Postmaster Donald McGhee announces new closing time at the local post office. Mail deposited by 5:15 p.m. will be sent out that evening, replacing the former 4 p.m. deadline. The rear entrance now stays open until 5:45 p.m.

Former Lordsburg Resident Dies in California

Price Glisson of Colton California and a former Lordsburg resident died on Oct 12 after a short illness. He was married to Mattie Pinky Smith daughter of J A Smith in Lordsburg. Funeral services and burial were in Colton on Oct 15. Mrs J A Smith and brothers J W and Arthur Smith left for California. He is survived by a daughter and three grandchildren all of Colton.

Mavericks Triumph In 3-B District Title Clincher

The Mavericks beat Tularosa 19 6 to claim the District 3 B championship at homecoming. Star halfback Dave Estrada broke two toes in Q1. tackle Arthur Estrada injured a ligaments in an arm twist. Johnny Mann and Rudy Corral scored for Mavericks. Bishop scored for Tularosa. Mavericks improve to 4 2 with three games left. regional title game set for Nov 13 and potential state final on Nov 20 if win. They host Dun can tonight at 6 p m.

Lordsburg Mavericks Band Tours Tri-State Parade and Homecoming

The Lordsburg High School Maverick Marching Band performed in the Tri-State Fair Parade in Deming with a large crowd watching and a post parade picnic funded by Deming Band Parents. They then joined cheerleaders in the New Mexico Western Homecoming Parade at Silver City, forming the letter N at halftime. Sponsors listed include Mrs Bowan, Mrs Woody, Mrs Gay, Mrs Kimberley, Mrs Lytle, J Whitmore, and bus sponsors Mr Brandt and Mrs Edwin Brown.
