Gilbert Lopez and Candelaria connected for a 40 yard TD in the fourth quarter after a scoreless first half, with ferreria and Valdez keying the Wildcats rushing game and Emes to Renteria aiding the offense as Lordsburg struggled to mount sustained drives.

Farmers and Employers Warned on Social Security Tax

Farmers who hire workers this year must keep records to file Social Security returns in January 1966. Workers qualify by earning 150 dollars from one employer or by working 20 or more days for one farm employer. Employers owe 7 percent tax, with 3 percent withheld from wages. report must include worker names addresses and social security numbers and total wages.

National Guard to Hold Tactical Field Exercise in October

The Battery C, 200th Artillery will take part in a tactical field exercise in the Black Mountain area near Deming on October 16 and 17. The event, led by Captain Jesus Estrada, aims to present the Second Battalion with the Outstanding Battalion award during Annual Field Training 1965 and to qualify guardsmen in small arms. Attendance is mandatory with reporting times set for 7 30 am at the armory and 8 am for movement. Grocery Operator Frank Yee Dies After Brief Illness

Frank Yee, owner of the Hidalgo Grocery on Railroad Ave in Hidalgo, died early Friday morning October 8 at Hidalgo General Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Canton China in 1907 he came to the United States in 1923 and worked in his friend Yee Toy’s grocery in Morenci Arizona before moving to Silver City then Lordsburg to establish the Hidalgo Grocery. Funeral services were held at Heather Chapel with Rev Don Baker officiating and burial at Mountain View Cemetery with pallbearers listed.

Congo Missionary To Address Methodists Service

The Rev. Lawrence H. Robinson, Methodist missionary to The Congo, will speak at First Methodist Church next Wednesday at 7 30 PM. Rifle Range to Be Open All Day Sunday

The Hidalgo Rifle and Pistol Club will keep its range west of town open all day Sunday October 17 for hunters and shooters to practice or sight in rifles. A morning shoot begins at 7 30 with possible pistol shooting afterward. At the October 4 meeting Jim Ragland was elected Range Safety Officer, replacing Ike Kennett.

The Lordsburg Benevolent Protective Order of Elks No. 1813 won first place in a ritualist contest in Las Cruces on Sunday October 10. Attendees included exalted ruler J K Kindexter Jr leading knight Victor G Lagar loyal knight Joe E McCarty lecturing knight Charles L Height esquire Edward A Diaz chaplain Bill McGhey interguard Preston Lindsey and George Thomas Barney candidate. Woman's Club Skit Night Planned by Lordsburg Group

Local Lordsburg ladies from several civic groups will join the Lordsburg Woman's Club for a Monday October 18 program at 7:30 in the Club House. A competitive skit between the Twiddle-dees and the Do-it-Rights is part of the entertainment. Women of the community are invited to attend and benefit from the event.

Members of Alpha Upasilon sorority enjoyed a program of travel films on Switzerland hosted by Fay Ruvens at her home. Carleen Massey presided over the regular meeting in Frankie Weckworths absence. Plans were set for the district meeting in Lordsburg on October 31.

City Council weighs low cost housing and sewer tile bids

The council awarded a clay sewer tile contract to W R Ritter Lumber Co at 49.8 cents per foot and discussed delinquent licenses. An airport by pass plan by Alan Koff was taken under advisement while a federal aid survey for low income housing was requested to see if Lordsburg qualifies.

New Postal Increase Sets Higher Prices for Stamped Envelopes

Postmaster Felix Gauthier Jr of Animas announces higher prices for stamped envelopes effective immediately. The 5 cent stamp rises by one cent when bought singly or in small quantities, with larger quantities eligible for price lists at local post offices. The change aims to cover costs as stamped envelope service ran losses despite a cheaper contract starting January 1, 1966. The new envelope features a pointed flap and brighter paper, and details on bulk pricing are available locally.
