Jewell Ownby Remembered After Arizona University Tribute

The life of Jewell Ownby is recalled after her death last week. A mile long funeral cortege paused before her resting place in the silent city of the dead. She stood with reluctant feet at the university half staff tribute while friends near and far paid their last love. Floral offerings from four states marked her wake. Her pastor urged mourning yet rejoicing as she joins a better world. Her father spoke of tears of joy for Jewels. Jewell’s devotion to church life and music, and her close family ties, shaped her years at the Arizona institution and beyond.
