Freddy Alvarado reports a muddy Friday non district game where Los Lunas 3A Tigers defeated the Lordsburg Mavericks 20 to 12. Los Lunas led 20 6 at halftime, Mavericks defense held scoreless in the second half, Gabe Guerrero and David Johnson scored for the Mavericks. The Mavericks travel next to Canutillo.

Merrell Named to Hidalgo County Hospital Board

Adair Merrell of Cotton City is appointed by the County Commission to the Hidalgo County Hospital Board to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of G Lynn Hatch who had served since the county took over the hospital in the 1940s.

Elks Lodge Completes Redecoration

Exalted Ruler Charles Mc Cullough announced the completion of the Elks Lodge hall redecorating. The ritual hall is paneled throughout with thanks to Sherwood Culberson for enabling the project and Bill Clark for installing the paneling. A building-fund contribution involved beef donations from Culberson. An invitation was extended to Elks for the October 25 lodge meeting to view the improvements.

Mrs. Mitchell Named Artex Instructor

Mrs Ena Mitchell of Lordsburg and Mrs Audra Anderson of Silver City returned from Albuquerque where they attended an area workshop on Artex Rolon Decorative paint. Mrs Mitchell was named an Artex Co instructor for the locality and will teach techniques for making inexpensive Christmas gifts with the paint without charge.

Lordsburg Secures $1.4 Million Federal Water Sewer Grant

The City of Lordsburg wins a total $1.4 million in federal aid for water and sewer upgrades. Manuel Sanchez of the Dallas HUD office approved the grant, with $851,100 base funds and $559,000 loan, to expand supply wells storage tanks and transmission lines and to modernize sewer treatment and collection systems. The project aims for a 2 million gallon storage tank and a new Railroad Avenue sewer main, with completion planned by January 1973.

Elks District Deputy Visits Lordsburg Lodge

Elks District Deputy Henry Harper of Roswell made an official visit to Lordsburg Elks Lodge on Wednesday October 11. Representing the Elks National Grand Exalted Ruler for New Mexico and South, his goal was to advance national Elks objectives at the local lodge. During the meeting Exalted Ruler Charles McCullough supervised the initiation of Ramon V. and Renteria.

College Day Programs Oct 17 19 at New Mexico schools

High school graduates and parents are invited as New Mexico universities present College Day Programs October 17 to 19. Ten institutions will attend general assemblies and sessions at area schools with meetings to match student interests and travel schedules.

Mobile Blood Bank Visits Hidalgo General Hospital

The El Paso Blood Services mobile unit will be at Hidalgo General Hospital on October 19 to draw blood for establishing a local blood credit. Donors help keep fresh blood available. unused blood is returned weekly and replaced. Call 9667 for details or visit between 8 and 11:30 a.m. on October 19.
