El Paso Herald lauds New Mexico State highway department for efficient maintenance patrols during two months of heavy rains. Despite overwork, crews kept roads passable with rapid temporary fixes and swift permanent repairs. Flood costs are high, but paving arterial highways and upgrading bridges will reduce future flood expenses.

Attorney J. B. Vaught arrives from Albuquerque to represent Pat Evans in the State vs Evans charged with killing Robt Eakins near the Mexican border on June 5. District Attorney Walton will represent the State. The Fred Braidfoot case, insult While armed, is the only other case on the docket.
Lordsburg a town team organizes for a game with Deming with two prior matches set. First game scheduled here around November 6. Local hosts Mr and Mrs J L Wells entertained Mr and Mrs Frank R Coon.
Fourteen lines report a fatal two vehicle crash on Deming Lordsburg road three miles east of Lordsburg. Roswell resident C. P. Willburn died after his Chrysler roadster collided with a Franklin sedan driven by Alexander Frank of Waterloo Iowa. Tourists Frank Picker and the injured party were transported to Lordsburg hospital. Coroner's inquest returned a verdict consistent with the facts.
Dudley and Amesbury start surface work on eight miles of Lordsbury Virden road with Mr. Amesbury in charge. Crews unload massive road machines daily and intend to complete the project in about four months. A camp has been established and operations will proceed rapidly.
Mr. and Mrs. C. 8. Pence Chandler Hill and Margaret Winslow visited Las Cruces Saturday to see Mayrel Pence and Ira Conner at State College. The group returned home late Saturday night.
J. E. Bryan commercial manager of the Texas-Law Power Co. and his wife returned with Bob Prugle from the Fort Stockston store opening.
Judge Carl P Duniton leads Hidalgo district court with D A Walton and defense attorneys present. Jurors acquit Rex in a prohibition case while Nick Hughes case ends in hung jury 8 to 4 with a retrial ordered. Local high school seniors attend to observe court procedure with Miss Mary Kelly as sponsor.
On Saturday October 15 at 2 30 p m Silver City and Lordsburg will play football on our field Admission 2Se and Sie Friday evening the Seniors and sponsor Miss McClure invited the Juniors and sponsor Miss Mylar to a weiner roast After a drive on the Silver City road they roasted weines and marshmallows and played games singing with a ukulele and refreshments The Juniors thanked the Seniors and sponsor Miss Mylar and Miss Swanland for judging the Sewing Club exhibit at Virden last Saturday Misa Garner accompanied them Court attendance by Seniors and Juniors with court officials for two hours was viewed as beneficial Miss Kelly visited Deming over the weekend Mr Smith and Mr Blom fished in the Mogollons catching 46 fish including one 12% inch specimen.
The Methodist church held an unled Sunday service with the choir leading. Mrs. J. L. Wells served as mistress of ceremonies and Mrs. Claude C. Fuller directed music while several women performed duets and readings. The welfare talk featured speakers including Miss Vera Johnson and Mrs. Watkins.
Frank Wewerk says Muir Cowboy and Frank Eaton's horse will race at Douglas on October 23 and attract local horsemen.
Ex servicemen of Animas organize Coronado Post No. and plan a multi use community house for post rooms and services. It will host religious services and community events with a Thanksgiving Rodeo on November 21 to dedication the completed building. Ex service men in Hidalgo County are invited to join.
The Williams family departs Lordsburg after three years to take a new pastorate in Clint with El Paso duties. John M. Rice arrives from Melrose to serve Lordsburg, bringing a wife and two children. A large prayer meeting last night welcomed the pastors, with a luncheon and clock presentation as thanks.
Dr. and Mrs. C. B. Austin return from three weeks visiting Chicago and Gulf coast cities with stops in San Antonio. Nat Garomon and Mrs. Austin's brother Thomas McQueen joined the trip, seen Tunney defeat Jack in Chicago, while the women visited theatre. The McQueens reside near Maywood, Lordsburg contingent thanks them for hospitality. Nat plans to pay a peculiar fight wager in due time.
Beout Executive Clyda Baker reports progress with Troop committees forming under Catholic, Church of Christ and Methodist sponsorships. Leaders include Joan Cervantes, N J Scott, G P Jeffus, and Rev Johns with favorable finances across towns in the Gila Grande Council.
Rey Wo HL Vanderpool in Lordsburg welcomed former Methodist pastor Rev WH Vanderpool visiting from Pecos and Gallup. He attended the Pythian Sisters Lodge initiation and a luncheon, joined the luncheon club, then left for Tucson conference before returning to Gallup. He was raised to Master Mason at Lordsburg No WO FLA A MM.
The Taxpayers Association of New Mexico endorses Amendment No 1 and No 3 but opposes No 7 and supports Amendment No 5 restricting bills after the forty fifth legislative day to the general appropriation and emergency bills. It argues fewer laws would result and urges ratification.
The program lists films and acts from October 15 to 21. Features include Lazy Lighting with Felix The Cat and Whispering Smith, Rich but Honest, Capt. Salvation, Pals First, and Bitter Apples across two nights each.
