Lordsburg City Set For Court Fight Over Rights Commission Ruling
The New Mexico Human Rights Commission ruled Lordsburg discriminated in hiring and promotion, ordering re hire of 17 workers with back pay of 1000 each, reinstatement, and cease discrimination. The City Council voted 5 3 to appeal to Hidalgo District Court. Morris said a transcript will be sent and a trial expected within three months.

School Boundary Issue Temporarily Settled
State Superintendent Leonard DeLayo settled which students may attend which schools. Seven Lordsburg families were allowed to send children to Animas schools. Fred Kerr was denied transfer due to first year attendance at Animas. Three Lordsburg families received temporary release to stay in Lordsburg. Final action to be taken by the Animas school board at their Oct. 10 meeting.

Ruth Hill Ordered To Vacate Interstate 10 Land
Highway Department lawyer Richard Russell said District Judge Norman Hodges will be asked to compel Mrs. Ruth Hill of Shakespeare Hidalgo County to show cause why she should not be held in contempt for occupying a structure on an I 10 entrance ramp at Lordsburg. The court previously awarded her $29,768 for 59.5 acres after a condemnation suit.
