City Cable TV Franchise Extended by City Council

Lordsburg City Council extended the City Cable TV contract for thirty days at Tuesday's regular meeting. City Attorney Rick Sherman noted the contract is prepared and to sign, the company must indicate specific problems. The seven year term includes automatic renewal unless issues arise, despite the company seeking thirteen years. Cliff Sanders of the Small Business Development Center also spoke in new business.

International student Brigit Pils at Lordsburg High School

Playas Road Ribbon Cutting Planned by Hidalgo County

At the Hidalgo County Commissioners meeting on October 8, plans for a big ribbon cutting to celebrate the Playas Road opening were announced. The event will invite the Governor and other dignitaries, highlighting former County Commissioners who helped make the road a reality.

Hunter Safety Classes Begin Here Monday

Beginning on Monday October 14 at 4 30 pm hunter safety classes start in the Extension Office at the Hidalgo County Courthouse. Optimists Prepare for Lordsburg Halloween Carnival

The Lordsburg Optimist Club sponsors a public Halloween Carnival on Thursday October 31 at the Special Events Center. Fun and games begin at 6 00 PM with booths including bean bag toss dime pitch shooting gallery wheel of fortune and cake walk. Neil Baird Sr owner and operator of KCHS Radio and founder of the Sierra County Sentinel died in T or C at age 67. He served 12 years on the City Council. Services held at 2 PM Wednesday in T or C with burial Thursday at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque.

Charlotte Ann Robertson Christman 46 of Safford Arizona died Friday October 4. Visitation was October 6 at Caldwell's Chapel of the Valley and prior to service at the Church Relief Society room. Domenici to Visit Lordsburg Friday

Senator Pete Domenici will arrive in Lordsburg at 10:00 AM for a brief visit, escorted by Hidalgo County Republican Chairman Mac McPherson, with a joint meeting at City Hall at 11:00 AM. A no host luncheon at the American restaurant follows at noon. Domenici then heads to Las Cruces. John Lattauzio will attend the luncheon and travel to Grant County for a GOP barbecue.
