Lordsburg Maverick Majorettes Lead Band this Year

Five Lordsburg High School majorettes organize twirling classes to fund uniforms and equipment. Judy McAlister is drum major with Lucy Sanchez as head twirler. others include Sylwia Fierro Jeaneane Badgett and Norma Rivera. They also perform with the concert band and fundraise through summer classes.

Fire Prevention Week Observed and Historic Fire Losses

Fire Prevention Week marks the 37th anniversary of the observance and recalls the Chicago Fire of 1871 and the Peshtigo blaze that same day. It notes U S fire losses in 1958 and urges New Mexicans to prevent deaths and property loss by fire.

Who's Who Contest Jackpot Advances This Week

Mrs. C. C. Fuller again selected the personality for Who's Who but miscounted clues. Damon Dunagan is revealed as Who's Who. She earns $7.50 plus a one year Liberal subscription. Billy Wayne Moore drew the slip at Gene's Shell Service with two witnesses present. The box moves to Smith Ford next week where a $12.50 prize adds to $20.00 for a $32.50 total.

Mavericks Face Tularosa Tonight For Title

The Mavericks, now 3 wins and 2 losses, lost 33 to 7 at Clifton Arizona. Clifton scored four touchdowns in the first three quarters, with two conversions in the second and a 61 yard end run in the third. Mavericks struck back once on a third quarter pass from David Estra.

Cemetery Clean-up Project Underway Council Told

City council discussed civic maintenance and utility issues including cemetery renovations, temporary wiring for Christmas lights on Railroad Avenue, removal of a gas line, and a water tax settlement with Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. The body also approved paying a police officer’s repair bill, considered a new duty schedule and vehicle, and planned road signage to protect street cleaning operations. Mayor Koff announced soil conservation flood control work and road sweep parking rules.
