Lordsburg Teachers Achieve 100 Percent NM Educational Association

The Lordsburg faculty, long members of the New Mexico Educational Association, again reach 100 percent participation becoming the first town to do so. Marquis Smith, last year’s Honor Student and two-year Editor of The Maverick, is appointed to work on The Pup Tent at the New Mexico Military Institute. In the latest Pup Tent, Marquis appears as the official Rabbit Reporter with three articles.

Mavericks Triumph in Opening Win Over Duncan Union

Lordsburg high school Mavericks opened the season Friday night with a 7-0 victory over Duncan Union High. Jordan starred with lengthy runs as Kerr and LeDoux sparked the win, while Fuller and Akter contributed on offense and defense amid rain and strong tackling.

Mavericks Prime for Hurley Clash Today

The Mavericks travel to Hurley to face the Hurley High School Indians in their first out of town game of the season. Coach Fhrhardt has tightened blocking and tackling and rotated the lineup. past losses to Hurley by narrow margins fuel confidence that the Mavericks can win.

First Year Home Economics Plans Frugal Family Breakfast Unit

The first year Home Economics group begins a five to six week unit on planning and preparing family breakfasts using pantry foods and substitutions to minimize costs. Objectives include planning and serving breakfasts, building speed accuracy and neatness, practicing table manners, and valuing an adequate diet.

Cheer Leaders Elected At Student Meeting

The student body elected Leta Bradberry as Cheer Leader with Jimmie Cueto as assistant for the coming season. A demonstration of their agility and pep was shown at the game last Friday night.

At a study hall meeting last Monday at four o clock the Athletic Association elected its officers for the coming year. Chester Jordan, a senior, was chosen for the top post.

Malcolm Barton enrolls in Lordsburg High bringing total to 146. Virginia Bradberry joins the Commercial Department. Senior Class rings ordered from Awtry Brothers via local jeweler H. H. Condor. Faculty meeting held at the High School last Wednesday. Fire drill success with 58 second building clearance.

Wilson School Ma k es New Volleyball Court and Activities

Wilson school opens a new volleyball court with three teams formed and practice started. Wilson and Central schools played a football game ending in a 0 0 tie. Fifth and sixth graders won the checkerboard drill last week with an average score of 64 57. Miss Crandall displays sweet potato vines in her third grade room. Alberta Silvas and Francisco Acosta have returned to school.

Examinations Begin Next Week Amid Shortening School Terms

Five weeks of school have passed and six week examinations will start next week. Grade reports will be issued the following week.

Friend of Lordsburg Dies in California

O G Crawford, longtime visitor to Lordsburg, died after surgery in Riverside. He contributed twenty five dollars to the Methodist church building fund and five dollars to the Baptist church tower during his visits. He was remembered for warm friendships formed here and his passing is deeply regretted.

Musical Recital at High School Auditorium Delights Crowd

Mrs. Fieanor Long’s recital drew a large audience of families and friends last Saturday. Students performed a varied program including piano solos, duets, and vocal numbers featuring Ivan Roberson, Ima Lee Roberson, Antonia Tejeda, Victoria Tejeda, Mary Frances Brown, Manuel Gonzalez, and Joella Highfield among others.

Herbert J. McGrath Dies at Silver City

Herbert J. McGrath 58 died Wednesday after years of poor health. Services were held at the Elks Club in Silver City and burial occurred in Concordia Cemetery El Paso beside family. He was a former sheriff of Grant County and NM Mounted Police captain, left a cattle ranch with his son Walter and leaves a widow and his mother.

Polley Bradberry Wedding in Hatfield Cottage Ceremony

Miss Mary Louise Foley and Marvin Hraberry were married Monday evening at the Catholic Church by Father Richard Power. Witnesses included Mrs. P. M. Foley and Catherine Power. The couple then hosted callers at Hatfield cottage on Third Street. A later celebration had friends chauffeuring the couple in a city fire truck and providing refreshments.

Russian Engineers Wreck Car While Touring U S Oil Fields

N Yannikoff and five other Russian engineers visiting the United States were in an auto wreck about three miles out on the Duncan highway. The crash caused very slight injuries to two occupants. The group is here to learn modern drilling and oil production methods with plans to import efficient machinery to Russia.

Studio Theatre News Sets Three-Show Week Through October

The Lordsburg studio theatre announces early evening hours with box office at 7 30 and first show at 7 45. Through October three weekly programs are planned Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Monday with each picture selected carefully for big hits. Mitchell Bulls Available To Local Cattlemen

An effort is made to place a carload of two year old registered bulls from T. E. Mitchell and Son of Albert New Mexico with local cattlemen. Bulls are from the Maetchell registered herd of Herefords raised under range conditions. S. R. Dunagan and son Animas are handling orders. Half the carload has been placed. A trip to the Mitchell ranch may be arranged with Dr. Black to assist. Interested cattlemen contact Dunagan or the County Agent.

Gala Show for Lordeburg High School Ath Letic Ponds

A benefit gala at the Studio on October 11 and 12 features Will Rogers in Down To Earth with a bead concert. Proceeds fund the Lordeburg High School athletic ponds as the "L" Clap sponsors urge attendance. Mrs. Felix Gauthier and her mother visited Animas resident.

Mrs. John J. McEvoy and family announce the death of John James McEvoy at his daughter's home in Phoenix after illness.
