Lattauzio and Dominici to Visit Hidalgo County
State Republican Chairman John Lattauzio will visit Lordsburg on Friday October 11. He moved to New Mexico in 1959 and runs five Alamogordo mini markets and a health food store in Alamogordo. Senator Pete Dominici will also attend a five hour visit with a noon luncheon at the American Restaurant. Public invited to attend the Dutch treat luncheon.

Superintendent Phil DeFoor says Lordsburg undergoes a three yearly accreditation check. Jeanne Barck of the Consultant School Approval Unit briefed the Lordsburg Municipal School Board on the process, noting agents have been in district two days and are examining systematic operations. Principal Vance Lee reported S.H.S. TV 101 won the Nambe Award for a recycling segment as RGGM expands from six to over twenty participating schools. The project involves student scripts, photography, editing, and self selected stories, with plans to continue this term. Final approval of the 1991 92 school budget has been received according to DeFoor.

Lordsburg Gem and Mineral Society Gains National Ranking
The Lordsburg Gem and Mineral Society is named a top 50 U S club by the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies, placing it in the top four percent from about 1200 clubs. The group, with 85 members, runs displays at Local venues, fixes up a Motel Drive building, and promotes ROCKAMANIA to attract dealers and rockhounds. They plan an October 11 to 13 show at the National Guard Armory.

Henry Holguin Dies in Tucson at 67
Henry M. Holguin 67, a Lordsburg resident, died Saturday at University Medical Center in Tucson Arizona. Visitation was held Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church with funeral Thursday at 10 am. Interment followed at Shakespeare Cemetery. He was born February 2 1924 in Lordsburg and worked at Smith Ford in Lordsburg for many years. Survived by wife Lila, seven sons and eight daughters, one sister, 54 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers listed. Entrusted to Bacas Funeral Chapels.

Nursing Home Death Under Investigation in Lordsburg
Lordsburg police chief John McDonald says the office, with Richard Salcido from the Sixth Judicial District Attorney and the Office of the Medical Investigator, are probing the September 24 death of 72 year old Severo Abiles at Sunshine Haven Nursing Home to determine potential criminal negligence by the facility or staff. Sunshine Haven Administrator Mitch Phillips confirmed an investigation is underway but offered no further comment.

Kenneth E Smith Sr., 66, of Cotton City died September 18 1991 at Tucson Veterans Medical Center. Memorial services were held September 20 at Valley View Community Church Cotton City with Pastor Bradley Mahann officiating. He served in WWII from 1943 to 1945 earning multiple medals. He moved to New Mexico in 1972 and resided in Lordsburg before settling in Cotton City. He is survived by wife Eva, two sons, two daughters, sisters, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Ann Sundin from Trollhattan Sweden joins Lordsburg High as part of the Foreign Exchange Student Program. The seventeen year old junior lives with Jim and Mrs Jarvis teachers in Windmill New Mexico. Sundin lists easy classes Typing Math American History English Foods Government and P E. She speaks Swedish English and German and enjoys competition jumping with her pony at home. Sundin notes food terrain and clothing differ from Sweden and praises friendly locals.
