Lightning hits plant cause big Hidalgo County blackout
A lightning strike at the Community Public Service Company's main generator plant in Lordsburg last Thursday at about 8 00 p m caused wide blackouts across Hidalgo and Grant Counties. The CPS spokesman said the surge overloaded other generators and power lines, with Hidalgo County losing power for about 35 minutes. Crews tied into the New Mexico power pool at Central station and gradually restored load as the main generator was refired. Operations are back to normal.
