New Mexico official David Cope told the Lordsburg Board of Education to take time in selecting a successor to Rueben Baca. He praised acting superintendent R V Traylor and urged focus on student interests and proper research before making a decision.
About 300 people attended a Wednesday cultural awareness program at the Lordsburg Community Center. The event marked the community’s first such program and commemorated the 1918 Mexican Revolution, with recitations, dances, and short plays featuring local participants.
Local merchants in the town announce Thursday openings and plan to resume normal evening hours after Thanksgiving. Some shops including drug stores cleaners and clothing outlets will stay open on Thursday and resume regular hours by December 5, with apologies for any prior confusion.
The Chamber of Commerce announces Pinon and Juniper Christmas tree permits for the Burro Mountains area on the Silver City District forest. Permits go on sale Monday December 9 at the Chamber office 9 12 and 1 5. One dollar per tree up to 10 feet. trees over 10 feet require the Silver City District office. Douglas Fir permits limited to the Silver City District office. Forest Service staff will monitor the cutting area.
District pageant organizers announce entries for the Little Miss of County contest must be submitted by Tuesday December 3. Posters and pictures will be displayed in the Lordsburg edition. parents must consent for publication and future photo use.
A group of Lordsburg residents including a county commissioner and sheriff formed the Hidalgo County Advisory Committee to advise SWMHC. Chris Sanders was named chair and Howard Cope secretary with monthly meetings at City Council Chambers starting January.
