BLM Adds New Terms to Grazing Allocations

Desert sheep capture under way in western Arizona

The New Mexico and Arizona Game and Fish Departments plan to relocate 12 desert bighorn ewes from the Kofa Refuge to New Mexico with airlift and tranquilizer dart methods. The herd will be briefly paddocked near Lordsburg before release, with a follow up move to the San Andres Mountains to capture more remnant sheep amid a mite outbreak. Funeral services for Lydia Martha Davis were held November 24, 1980, with an obituary to follow.

Lordsburg Teenager To Preside At Cattle Growers Meet

Vic Culberson a Lordsburg high school honor student and active 4-H member will preside over junior and fourth quarterly meetings of the New Mexico Cattle Growers' Association in Deming and Lordsburg. The events include a dinner and dance at the Deming Holiday Inn with sponsors Purina Culberson Ranches Kipp Ranches and First National Bank of Lordsburg. Vic comes from a ranching lineage as grandson and great grandson of long time cattle leaders and holds leadership roles in school and church activities.

Robber Receives Sentence for Lordsburg Cattle-Operator Robbery

Albert W. Matthews, 33, once of Farmington and now linked to Tucson, was sentenced to 272 years in the state penitentiary for his role in the armed robbery of Lordsburg dealer Earl Anderson on January 9. He pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary larceny aggravated battery and false imprisonment.

Community College Programs Offered in Lordsburg by WNMU

Western New Mexico University will offer community college and academic programs in Lordsburg for residents. Enrollment needs 10 students per class for most courses and 12 for graduate options.
