Election officials are named for the December 9 election and will attend instruction sessions at Animas, Virden, Rodeo, and Lordsburg schools. Sessions cover Precinct 6 Animas at 10 30 a m and Precinct 4 Virden at 2 30 p m on December 4. Rodeo Precinct 5 at 10 30 a m on December 5. Lordsburg Consolidated Precincts 1 2 3 at 1 30 p m City Hall. Voting machines will be used.

City council approves 700000 bond for utility upgrades
In a special session the council passed Ordinance No 229 raising water sewer and gas minimum charges by one dollar and increasing use rates. A $700000 revenue bond is authorized with $500000 federal match for water sewer and gas system improvements. Full text to be published next week.

Animas Panthers Split Opening Home Weekend
The Animas Panthers opened the 1969-70 basketball season by splitting with Colonia Juarez of Mexico. Captain John L. Harvell of Lordsburg received the Air Medal at Udorn Royal Thai AFB Thailand for outstanding airmanship as a HH 53 helicopter pilot on missions in Southeast Asia. He serves in the Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Service and was commissioned at Lackland AFB Texas with over five years of service and a 1959 Lordsburg High School diploma.
