Observation Post notes fund drive to supplement church aid reaching up to 4000 people yearly. Gifts collected via the Annual Community Living Service and mailed to Rey Baker, Tomilinson, or Floyd Grant to support those in need.
Smith, a local Ford dealer, escaped with minor injuries when a truck exploded into flames last Thursday about 15 miles northwest of Feliver City on U S 180. He had delivered a trailer from Cliff when the cab caught fire and he jumped free as the vehicle burned completely, suffering singed hair lacerations and contusions.
Lordsburg Lions Club continues a used eyeglass drive begun during a broom sale. Collected specs will be calibrated and cataloged by the Santiago Lions Club for needy students in Chile. The Lordsburg club has long funded eye exams and glasses for local students in need.
Dillard W. Howell of the FBI announces a police training school for the Silver City Police Department in New Mexico. The event, requested by Chief Thomas J. Kyat, runs 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on December 2, 1964, covering crime scene searches evidence handling and civil rights with instructors Howell and an Albuquerque FBI agent. Chief Ryan invites local law enforcement agencies to attend.
Dedication of an art glass window honored the memory of Claude C. Fuller, who died June 2, 1963. The ceremony on November 22, 1964 was led by Rev. R. O. Tomlinson with attendees including Mrs. Fuller and sons Warren P. Fuller of Menlo Park and H. Basil Fuller of Newport Beach, plus Henry W. Fuller and family from Silver City. Gene Rogers performed "Bless This House" with Ralph Miller at the organ, and viewers may see the pastel window on the church’s right side.
The Hidalgo County Farm and Livestock Bureau collected several honors at the State Farm Bureau Convention in Carlsbad in November 1862. Johnny Davis received a hat for organizational director. Mrs Leroy McCarty earned an information plaque and membership certificate plus a $100 award for member-mile leadership toward national convention expenses. Jim Culberson took second in the senior talent final. Adam Merrell was reelected first vice president and Mrs Clyde Richins became district chair of District 4's Woman's Committee. A Cotton Extravaganza style show segment was shown at the banquet attended by Clyde Richins and wife, Mie Riching, and many others.
The Moctezuma Club sponsored Turkey Shoot awarded 24 turkeys to 16 marksmen using rifles bows and pistols. Ollie Robnett won three in the fle with scope event. Owen Harker two. Whipple Martinez and De vilbiss each one. Whipple and Rutland added pistol wins. Talavera Estrada Ruiz Madero Arredondo Finley also claimed open rifle prizes. Talavera won bow and arrow. 22 caliber winners included Hood Arambula Guzman Guzman Rutland and Robnett.
Doctors of Lordsburg will give lectures on anatomy physiology laboratory procedures and social diseases at Hidalgo General Hospital starting Monday Nov 30 at 7 00 pm four times weekly. The course aims to train hospital staff but the public may attend and bring notes.
The Social Security representative will be at the Hidalgo County Courthouse in the commissioners room on Thursday December 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Director J Edgar Hoover of the FBI delivers a Thanksgiving tribute praising Pilgrim ideals and warning Americans about neglect of religious heritage and personal responsibility. He cautions that material abundance cannot save a free people from destruction and that forsaking duty invites masters and slavery.
The New Mexico Boys Ranch launches its annual Christmas appeal to fund 69 boys aged 7 to 18 on 3000 acres near Belen. The facility emphasizes daily chores, livestock success, and education while welcoming all faiths and promoting a family atmosphere as they seek support to continue and expand their work.
The Legion Auxiliary collects gift contributions via boxes at Amin's Department Store Up-To-Date Dry Goods and Leo's Variety Store for the Gift Shop at Ft. Bayard Hospital. Donations requested by December 5 to aid veterans families for December 12 and 13.
The Lordsburg P T A invites shoppers to a Saturday December 5 International Bazaar at the Cafetorium. Unique gifts span thirteen countries with items from Delhi to Hawaii, Paris to Holland, priced from 1 to 13 dollars. The bazaar runs 10 am to 10 pm with many unusual imported goods.
The Hidalgo General Hospital Wo mans Auxiliary forms to sponsor Candy Stripers boosting numbers from 14 to 29. New members include Diddy Estrada Denise Rosasco Pattle Halffey Sharon Lytle Celene Richins Shirley Hitson Epi Madrid Betty Bass Naomi Bass Stephanie Helbig Lydia Pedregon Prescillia Carmona Amanda Richins Susan Dallies Michael Wood Nancy Blakey Mary Blakey Karen Newton. Candy Stripers have donated 1116 hours of free service to the community as interest from Lordsburg youths grows and more adults are encouraged to participate.
Dr. C. P. Austin has moved to new offices at 201 Main St in Lordsburg. The former house on the site was remodeled and expanded into modern medical suites. He resumes as the Southern Pacific physician, keeping his role at the railroad in the updated location.
