Lt Col Clyde A Lundy rises through the ranks as promotion is earned by merit and service. President announces his promotion on November 23, 1942, recognizing leadership at Lordsburg internment camp and marking a lifetime of dedication.
Mrs. R. E. Kirsman hosted a Thursday luncheon at her home for Red Cross overseas kits. Attending were Mesdames Thomas Brown J. O. Safford Edward Sturma Clarence Jack R. D. Capps O J Smary and J. F. Hughes among others.
Mrs O J Smart organized a Red Cross sewing unit for enlisted men last Tuesday. The group seated guests and explained Red Cross requirements, with a hopeful outlook for future meetings. Attendees included Mesdames Harold Patton, Earl Leevey, Herman Malone, Wm Akerman, Bryan Perrett, Lionel Ayers, Virgil Stevenson, Clifford Rodgers, and Joe Gatz. Lt Col Albert Tucker and Lt T L King from Ft Sam Houston inspected the camp over the past week. Mrs C A Lundy and her children Lolly and Jackie, and Mrs H B Winters, arrived Friday November 20 to spend Thanksgiving with Col Lundy.
Major G. T. Richie from the station hospital at Ft Bliss is temporarily stationed at the Lordsburg Internment Camp.
The promotion party honored 2nd Lieuts Rufus Crews and E W Mitchell promoted to 1st Lieuts H C Stull and R B Dockum promoted to Captains. Col C A Lundy presented pins as wives pinned on husbands. Mrs H C Stull else absent. A midnight buffet followed with ham roast beef Waldorf salad candied sweet potatoes and desserts. Sgt J B Moore served and Sgt David Mazzola played accordion.
A list of officers and guests including Maj Churchill Capt and Mrs A J Warren Capt and Mrs Balch and Lt E Eirsman hosted a Lordsburg visiting party. Mrs Brown sailed November 26 to see friends in Washington and Canada. Lt Rex G Daw of Long Beach inspected the boilers at the internment camp last week.
Mrs. W. P. Churchill entertained at the officers club luncheon. A fruit display on a disk mirror with turkey decorations framed the table. Guests included Mesdames Safford Wegner Capps Jeffus Robinson Prugle Short McWhorter Allen Kaun and Kaun Jr.
The wives of the enlisted Red Crows sewing unit will gather at the Woman's Club building on Thursday December 3 at 2 o'clock.
Sgt Bonnie Pollock of Clarksville Texas reports the birth of his infant daughter Sylvia Marie born November 22. The mother and child are in Clarksville Hospital and doing nicely. Congratulations from the family and community.
Miss Jeanne Smith of the Lordsburg Internment Camp sails from Deming to Des Moines, Iowa to join the WAAC. Her farewell party at Hidalgo Grill honored by coworkers who presented a cigarette lighter. Family and friends gathered as news of travels and visits circulated.

The fourth quarterly conference of FBI and county law officers at City Hall was lauded as a success under D. A. Bryce alias the J Edgar Hoover of the Southwest. Willard E. Holt urged no outside domination and no politics while praising American military forces.
The Womans' Club asks local women to donate washed worn stockings to boxes at Up-to-Date Dry Goods Union and Style Shop for war material. Donors are urged to participate in supporting paw bags and related wartime supplies.
Mrs Simpson, visiting this week, recalls arriving in 188% with her parents buried at Shakespeare Cemetery. The family later moved to San Simon. now in Tucson. The old McWhirt feed and livery stood where the Hidalgo Hotel now sits.
The Lordsburg Woman's Club met for its regular session marking 26 years of activity. Charter members Mrs. George Trimble and Mrs. R. B. Ownby were honored with life memberships. new members include Mrs. J. A. Lassalle and Mrs. J H Baxter. A silver tea is planned for December 7 at Mrs. Ownby's home. A book review of Look to the Mountain by La Grande Cannon Jr. was given by Mrs. R. E. Buvens to about 30 attendees.
Mr and Mrs Prank Bowman hosted a relatives dinner Monday evening with guests including Mr and Mrs E Bowman Mr and Mrs Allan Bowman Mr and Mrs Creighton Bowman Mrs Moselle Messecar Grant Bowman and the hosts.
A statewide V-Day celebration for December 7 marks the Pearl Harbor anniversary. The Army New Mexico National Guard OCD and Governor Miles organize a “Volunteer for Victory” program with war bond drives, enlistment of Victory Volunteers, and local defense council activities across New Mexico. Local ceremonies in Santa Fe will honor Cols Bage and Peck and a statewide radio hookup will broadcast events.
The Service Club announces hostesses for the coming week. Fight Friday November 27 features Mr and Mrs G P Jeffus. November 28 hosts include Mrs Jack Heather and Mrs W W Scott. November 30 to December 1 list Don McCabe Faye Clayton Mattie Conner Leo Cohen. December 2 includes Mrs Alan Koff Exa Barton. December 3 lists Mrs A L Green.
Song section listing performers Pablo Soto and Chorus Marlene Pierce Mary Jane Wathen Gay Powell and Chorus Edward Melendez and Chorus appears in a program. It notes pieces titled Your Land and Mine The American Way and The Ramparts We Watch performed by these artists.
Mr and Mrs Leo Cohen are in El Paso for the Thanksgiving holidays enjoying the seasonal visit and time with friends in the border city.
The War Production Board urges New Mexico farmers and ranchers to dedicate remaining weeks of 1942 to intensified steel scrap collection. Harvested metal will support steel mills, with salvage committees providing transportation and manpower. Nelson urges full cooperation from Hidalgo County farmers to meet national scrap goals.
Public notice requires all persons to secure War Ration Book No 1 by December 16 to exchange for a universal rationing book later. No universal book will be issued without War Ration Book No 1 to all residents of the United States. No registrations for sugar coffee or other items after December 16.
Frank Weldon Jr traveled to El Paso to watch the big championship football clash as Fl Paso Hinl beat Austin High 6 to 7. His son Frank plays in the El Paso High band, while Malcolm Borwell, son of Mia Trimble Bowwell, appears in the Austin band and orchestra. The two younger Weldon boys joined their mother and grandmother Mia Pred Gilman to visit the grandmother for a few days.
Virgil Bohannon and Richard V Morelos have joined the army and are stationed at the Ft Blinn Reception center. Bohannon is son of Mr and Mrs V C Bohannon and Morelos is son of Mr and Mrs Frank Morelos. Frank Bowman and Mrs Bowman visited El Paso Tuesday and Wednesday. A L Green fell ill at home Thursday but is recovering.
Claude Speers Derer, famed hunter, boasted of bringing down a massive buck reputedly weighing around 926 pounds. Melanis, a longtime fishing companion, vouched for Speer’s accuracy, noting the animal was unusually tender in the claim.
The New Mexico Tax Bulletin notes Hidalgo County has the lowest tax rate at 0.18 percent while Grant and Los Lana Counties show higher rates. Counties reach 0.27 0.26 0.20 and the city council reduces the 20 mill levy by three mills at Thanksgiving time.
W. Huneal of the U S Bureau of Mines visited this week to inspect safety devices and seek sabotage evidence. He commended Supt. EB Bowman of the Banner Mine for safety practices and reported no signs of sabotage.
